Which shotgun Remington or Ithaca

I'am gonna be setting up a shotgun for deer hunting in New York's southern zone (shotgun only in most area's). I have and like both the Remington 870 and Ithaca 37, in 12 gauge. I'am leaning towards the Ithaca. I want to get a 20 inch rifled slud barrel with True Glow iron sights for my brush and deep woods hunting. I also plan on getting a 24 inch rifled barrel with a cantalever scope mount and a Leupold 2X7-33 shotgun scope. I like the fit and feel of the Ithaca a "little" better. The Remington fits me good to. Just want to get some opinions on both shotgun's. Thanks.

NY,

I can say that in 30 years of owning an Ithaca M37, that I have never had one problem with it. If that attests to how well they were built back then, and I hope they are just as good now....then you shouldn't have anything but good luck with one. Mine has 26" barrel with IC choke....use it for all upland game that I care to point at.

I also own an Ithaca m37 Deerslayer w/ 20 inch smoothbore bbl.....Very happy with it.  I have a Tasco Red-Dot scope w/ Square-D saddle mount.  Have you seen the new Ithaca Storms for deer, turkey and waterfowl with fixed bbl? They are something!

NY Hunter, The Ithaca M37 is the more popular choice in NY State. Its made inNY. Most Ithaca shotguns will shoot slugs accurately. My experience with Remingtons is  that they need added sights to zero them in .And they produced larger groups. I have hunted the Southern Zone,Allegany Cattauragus and Stueben countys. A plane barrel Ithaca will shoot most slugs accurately.The only Improvement I used Was the addition of a "Deerslayer" smooth barrel. Thats all you need. Back in 1960 theN.Y.P.D. adopted the M37 . They would shoot slugs accurately with 18 inch barrels. Their first order was for 800 guns. Shoot both guns from the bench with various ammo at 50 yards  see what  results you get. Then a 75 yard zero should be good for hunting.   Good Luck!           Horsefeathers.
