Your Favorite Single Action Revolver...?
« on: July 04, 2010, 02:55:12 PM »
What is your favorite single action revolver and why?

I like the sturdiness of Ruger Vaqueros, but I do not
like the heaviness of the firearm. I know the extra steel
is why they are a bit heavier than standard single
action revolvers. I actually like the feel and balance
of the Uberti Cattleman revolvers. They are not
built for heavy loads, but they seem to point naturally.

Thanks,
Rifle Man

In a centerfire it would be a stainless Blackhawk in 45 LC. Rimfire would be a stainless Single Six. They're also the two I own. Will add a 357 mag Blackhawk to the group somewhere down the road. Reason for the Blackhawks and Single Sixes over say a Vaquero and a Bearcat is the adjustable sights. I have rarely found a fixed sight pistol that shoots where I want it to. JMHO

I'm with kynardsj.  I have 4 5/8th NMBH in .45 Colt in the blued version but a stainless would show the use less than the blue version.  Next revolver purchase will be a Single Six with both cylinders and stainless.

I have a number of favorites, It kind of depends on what I'm doing on a given day. I switch according to my needs. Not real specific is it, but it is  true.! ;)

I only own one, a 6 1/2" blued Super Single Six.  So I guess that would have to be my favorite.  ;D

I just got off the phone with FA about a model 97 in 41 mag! They are the most beautiful pistols made in my opinion. I am now trying to figure how I am going to pay for one of those beauties!

I haven't been able to come up with a definitive answer to the question yet, but I'm working on it.
It's one of those Ginger or Mary Ann questions.

I always come back to my Ruger Bisley in .44. I've played with FA, BFR, Colt Clones ... fancy, stock, custom. That Bisley just feels good and we've got a lot of rounds together. I seriously toyed with getting out of .44 and going .45 when I started reloading, but I just love that gun too much so I'm sticking with .44 just because of her. Not the prettiest, or most expensive.

Ruger Blackhawk convertible.  I love the ability to switch to .45 acp for plinking and cheap shooting.

I actually like the feel and balance
of the Uberti Cattleman revolvers. They are not
built for heavy loads, but they seem to point naturally.

Rather than buy one chambering and have to use hot loads why not simply buy a more powerful chambering to begin with?  For the most part, there's factory loads that aren't at the "Ruger only" levels that are quite adequate for hunting in .41, .44 and 45LC.

That all said, I'd sy my favorite SA is a Ruger Bisley in 45LC or in 41 magnum.

Old three screw Ruger Blackhawk, .357 61/2". Seems to be the single action that I go to most.

Very accurate, smooth, and useful.

My absolute favorite is my Piatta Remington 1863 New Model Army clone in 44 and in a very close second place is my Uberti 1873 Colt clone in 45 colt.

If your talking the nicest one i own it would probably be my oct. barrel 500. If your talking the gun i use the most it would have to be my 4 5/8s super blackhawk. Its probably the least valuable gun in the safe but its one of the most practical.

.......Its probably the least valuable gun in the safe but its one of the most practical.

Gotta respect that!

My all-time favorite is, of all things, actually a New Model.
After all the years of all the different favorites, I finally got teh one I always wanted.
Everyone is probably tired of hearing about the Flat Top .44 Special, but they got it right on that one.
I gave up my OM .45 Colt BH once I got this one.
All I need now is to get my butt in gear and get a SBH hammer for it.

New Model Blackhawk Convertible in .45 Colt/.45 ACP.  Lets me shoot inexpensive plentiful acp ammo and reloads as well as the colt, which with the right loads is an awesome hunting round.  8)  Cheers!
