My old 4 5/8 inch Ruger Super Blackhawk because it was my first 44 Magnum handgun and it has logged many interesting miles with me in the field. Once it gave me the confidence to slowy back away from a pissed off brown bear. I had it loaded with the CorBon 305 grain Penetrator load. I put a Belt Mountain locking base pin and some Pachmayr grips on the gun and it is a dream to shoot with heavy loads. Second place is a toss up between two Ruger convertables. One is an old Single Six with a 6.5 inch barrel. This gun is a great shooter and has a very high fun factor for plinking. The other one is a blued 4 5/8 inch Ruger Blackhawk in 45 Colt. It is nice to be able to shoot everything from 45 acp ball on up to 300 grain Cor Bon JSP or 255 grain Keith loads in the same gun. One real nice advantage this gun has over the Super Blackhawk is it is 8 ounces lighter with the same length barrel. At only 36 ounces it is lighter than even a S&W Mountain Gun with similar power. Even the 7.5 inch blued Blackhawk 45 Colt only weighs 40 ounces. The stainless steel model weighs about the same as the Super Blackhawk.

I have two favorites, both equal. One ia a fun, perfect packin' pistol, a stainless Ruger new model Blackhawk 4 5/8 in. bbl .45 LC. The serious hunter is my Freedom Arms model 83.454 Casull 7 1/2 in. bbl, both carried in shoulder holsters. My Blackhawk has only a .002 Cylinder gap (rare for a factory gun), but the cylinder throats were way undersized, so had them reamed to .4525, and had a gunsmith friend take out the trigger take-up and install a wolf spring kit. It is one sweet shooter. Nothing needed for the FA .454, as they are perfect from the factory. Also a very sweet shooter.

Next mod to the blackhawk will be a stainless Bisley grip frame to help tame heavy load recoil, and it will be sweeter yet!

The only single actions I own are Rugers. The one that I carry the most often is a Ruger SS Single Six 5.5" barrel with a 22 WRM cylinder in place. You could say it is an almost constant companion.

The ROA may not be a modern shooter for your local gun fighter, but they are fun. I shoot powder and ball as well as bullets. I also fire .45 Colt Ctrgs. in the R&D Conv. cylinder.

one of the two Rugers I own,either the 4 5/8 45LC NMBH i converted to Bisley config(blued) or the stainless 5 1/2 Single Six that's getting the Bisley treatment when the parts get here......a tough choice

Mine is 3 in 1. I picked up a SBH in SS with a missing grip and a bad barrel

Found a new barrel 7.5 long from a SBH that was blued and a grip from another blued SBH that was junk. Had the gun smith put it all together and it shoots like a dream

Everyone KNOWS the answer to that is allways Mary Ann AND Ginger and I suspect the right answer to your question regarding the guns is similar.

I only have two, both Rugers. I like the way they build their actions. My favorite so far is this Blackhawk that Ben Forkin converted to .44 Special and bobbed to 3 5/8ths inches for me.

My favorite SAs are my only SAs. I use them in SASS shooting. .357 Charles Dalys. 7.5" barrels. I use them as they came out of the box and am very satisfied. I did add medallions to mark the right and left guns. Made them from cartridge cases.

i posted that the lil birdshead was my favorite but you know i pulled out my old vaquero that i have had forever and although i hardly ever touch it
it is still my favorite like an old shooting buddy of mine once said, "gripping this gun feels like shaking hands with an old friend"

I came to this thread to extole the virtues of my 4 5/8" Lipsey's / Ruger .44 Special - not join a fan club!

Closest thing to a custom I'm gonna own in the forseeable future. It's my perfect packin' pistol. My 17 year old cowgirl daughter loves it too.

Hopefully it will take a deer this year.

Any one of my three Ruger Bisley Blackhawk Convertibles - all three are .45colt with .45acp extra cylinder, 5 1/2"barrel, Stainless Steel. Runner up would be my Ruger Bisley Vaquero (first model) .45colt 5 1/2", Blue/case color.
I can load them "light & soft" or "hot & heavy". Extremely versatile !!

Just refinished working this one by replacing the grip frame from SS to aluminum along with the ejector rod housing, it dropped the carry wight considerably and I can shoot .38 or .357 mag. The grips were given to me by a good friend and I fit them to the gun and my hand/paw. The new cylinder I fit with a .002 gap and the triger is nice and crisp now. The best part... I inherited the BH and the parts were in a box o junk I bought at a gun show for $100.00

Kept all the parts incase I ever get a blued BH and can have photo neg pair!
Before this and for hunting my BH Bisley 45LC.

Dog gone, at $400 I would have taken it home. Most of the these ROAs are going for $500 and up. I shoot the .45 Schofield hand loads in the winter. I load Win 231 with a 240 Gr. cast to 1000 FPS makes a nice walk around load for winter on the range. I was in Cabelas in SLC, Ut. last month. They had some good buys on used firearms.

My current favorite would have to be a 1958 Old Model Single-Six that had been sitting in it's factory box and had only 6 rounds fired through it in the past 52 years. The reason it is special is because I traded off an identical 1958 Single-Six for a New Model Single-Six Convertible in the early 70's and regretted it ever since. This one was owned by an 84 year old guy who bought it, fired 6 rounds through it, and put it away. The original box, receipt, manual, and all papers were included. It doesn't even have a turn mark on the cylinder.

Hmm, I know what you need is Ruger's New Vaquero. It's more like a SAA in size and weight.
Here's a pic of a Vaquero and a New Vaquero.

The Vaquero has Ruger's XR3-RED grip frame, the .44 magnum sized cylinder frame and cylinder and a unexciting Blackhawk hammer.
The New Vaquero uses Ruger's XR-3 grip frame which is a very close copy of the SAA, a "medium sized" cylinder frame, again very "Colt Like" in size
and weight, and a "Colt Like" sized cylinder and hammer. It also has Ruger's "Reverse Indexing Pawl" a little gizmo that "click stops" the ratchet such that the chamber lines up with the loading gate, unlike the standard New Model design.

My Ruger Bisley .45LC that I sent back to Ruger and had a 4 5/8 barrel and .45 ACP cylinder fitted to it. Then sent it to Magnaport to have a 10 degree forcing cone and it Magnaported. Shoots like a dream and is a first generation Bisley.

My SBH 4 5/8ths is my old faithful...Wife gave it to me for my 30th Birthday, and grips for our one year aniversary...my brother's SBH Hunter in 45 colt is pretty nice too...like to have one in 44 someday...
