CZ 22 hornet 527 American or Lux ???
« on: July 06, 2010, 07:21:17 AM »
Been saving my chips to buy a CZ in 22 hornet. Would like to find a good used one but if I have to spring for a new one I am undecided on American or Lux. I am sort of inclined toward the Lux. Is this just a matter of personal preference or is there an advantage to one model or the other? Any info appreciated. Thanks, Joe

As hard as it is to resist, i also think that i will buy a 527 in .22 Hornet. I want a rifle that i can reload for and shoot targets at 100-200 yards with good accuracy, longer barrel life than the hyper .22s, and good looking classical wood - and Timney makes triggers and Warne and Talley make rings for them. So, my preference would be the Lux or the Full stock.

I have shot the American, the Lux and the FS in one caliber or another. They were all very accurate.

The advantage of the American is that it does not have iron sights, making barrel replacement easier and cheaper should you ever need. Also, the American is easier to shoot prone, due to the shape of the stock.

The Lux and the FS, however, felt much better to me for offhand shooting, though the shape of the stock made them akward when trying to shoot prone. Their iron sights are very good and useful for shots up to 100 yards, or more.

It's up to your preference.

I'm buying either the Lux or American in .222 Rem. Can't really decide yet.
The one negative I've read on the Lux is the sights are fixed, and if you need to adjust elevation, you have to get a new sight blade from CZ. But once dialed in, I'm sure it would be fine.
I have the 452 Lux in .22WMR, and love it, so that's the way I'm leaning with the centerfire.
A set of Talley QD rings and a Leupold 6X scope would make for a very versatile rifle.

Hey guys enjoyed your imput. American...Lux it's a nice problem to  have!  Are the rings needed for CZ rifles not the same as standred Weaver style used on US made rifles? Also noticed that you do not get rings with the Lux. Joe

If you plan on putting a scope on it, do not get the lux. I have a 222 in the lux and love it but only with iron sights. I bought an after market stock onit last year so I can shoot it with a scope and have a good cheek anchor. Makes all the difference. I loved the way the lux looked though. CZ is an awesome gun and comes with the adjustable trigger. Single set trigger to be precise.

I can understand that, but I have a real soft spot for the Lux and I'm willing to put up with the odd cheek weld, I do it with my rimfire Lux. Glad to hear you like your .222.

CZ 527 rails are 16mm and require special rings. Rings are available from Talley or CZ.

The cheek weld is not all that odd. You get used to it and a low mounted scope with long eye relief does wonders with those hogback stocks - if properly mounted for the shooter. I can see where a monster scope in high rings and 3" eyerelief could be a problem, but i sometimes shoot a 527 Lux with a 1-4x20 scope with 4" of ER and it just snaps in front of me for aiming with both eyes.

I have both Lux and American in .22 Hornet. Both shoot great but the advantage for getting the American is this. The American has no sights, so a smooth barrel. The Lux has fixed sights but you can remove the rear sight. When you remove the rear sight it leaves a lump that held the sight. This stops you from useing a bigger objective end scope. If I remember right a 44 mm front obj is as big as you can go. I don't think anyone makes high rings for the 527. High rings would be needed for a 50 mm obj scope. If they make high rings would someone tell me who does? Also, the lux has a much better pistol grip and a longer barrel. Either is great so go for it.

I have had and enjoyed a CZ 527FS in 22 Hornet for a few years now. It is accurate and has great curb appeal. Whatever 527 you end up with, I am sure you will enjoy a great rifle.
