Frame question? Please Help

I have another question, can an encore frame be cocked without a barrel? I didnt even notice at the dealer but when i got it home i noticed the hammer about halfway in between and it wouldnt budge, surely TC's quality control wouldnt let something like this out of their doors.

      Stick your finger down into the action on the right side and back under the bolt latch shelf.  You will feel a small protrusion.  With slight pressure you can push it to the rear and this will release the hammer and allow it to cock.

I  did that and it did work but.......it would only release the hammer to the same position when the trigger was pulled this has me puzzled

That is a safey feature to keep the gun from cocking, or firing when the barrel isn't fully closed.
Put a dang barrel on it and shoot it. It is not designed to shoot without one.

Don't be dropping the hammer on an empty chamber, or an un-barreled frame. Tain't good for it.

Sir you have just put my mind at ease, I was realy worried about this but with me a greenhorn to the world of encores I wasnt 100% sure what to do I only droped the hammer on it once I dont figure any harm has come from it thanks for the info every one it was a huge help
