Suzuki 250 Crankcase Question
« on: July 07, 2010, 02:16:42 PM »
On my Suzuki 250E quadrunner, how full of oil should the motor be? There's no dipstick nor fill marks that I can see. Just looking in it it apears half full and I'm guessing that's about a quart low. Any advice would be greatly apreciated.

does it have an overflow plug? Many times it will be like the rear end of a car. You fill in one hole till it comes out the other. If not just go down to your local suzuki dealer and ask them to check the manual, they should have one on there computer and see how many liters it holds.

not familiar with that particular bike, but yu might try looking low down on the side of the crankcase for a small glass window about the size of a nickle, oil level should be visible in that window if your bike has that type of check system.ive never seen a 4 stroke bike that didnt have a way to check the oil. is it possible the dipstick broke off the cap and dissapeared or something weird like that?

I found the window, however, it's at the very bottom. Heck, you put hardly any oil in it at all and the window is covered. Just below the fill cap is stamped1600 ml which converts to a hair over a quart and a half. Could that be what it holds? I don't know why else it would be there. Also, the window is so cruddy on the inside that I can't even see through it. I'm going to drain the oil and start from scratch. Wondering if a good synthetic oil would work best in it?

a lot of time those windows do get stained where you cant really tell the level.a strong penlight does help when shined on it.a little over a quart and a half does sound right for that bike engine size.id drain and put in appropriate amount like yu said and see what the level looks like then with a light shined on it.synthetic sould work fine, ive used it even in older bikes. some guys will tell yu its not compatible with the wet clutches but ive never run into a prob.but thats just my experience.
