Now Golden Olde has company.  There is nothing sadder than a lonesome cannon.
Mike & Tracy, since you have first logged onto GBO, I have wanted something from your craft.  I am happy.    Thank You      Krupp #5       Ron

KABAR2,   Mike and I worked in the aerospace industry for many years as inspectors, not engineers, and we were thrilled to find out that defense counsels and especially prosecutors liked us even less than engineers when they were selecting people for juries in criminal trials.

Cat Whisperer,   Where are you pics of smoke and flame?  We are beginning to wonder if DD can figure out how to fire #24.  Tim, you might have to make a road trip to Maryland this weekend to help him out.  Oh-oh, I’m probably in trouble again!

George,   Don’t fret; there are no markings!

Tim,   We see that you removed the Striker Assy.  Once you do that, you can begin to understand how it works.

Ex 49’er,   Remember that these are signal guns.  With pencils in play you better be extra careful; you could shoot your eye out!

Dominick and Div. Arty.,   Thanks for the compliments and we ae happy to hear that they arrived in good shape.  Wow, Ron, looks like the Kraut is in very good company!

Robert Magill, Todd Johnson, Aaron Eisenbeis, George Gaskill, Matthew Cameron and Andy Kent should be receiving their Krupp cannons in two to three days.

Smoke and Flame CW & DD,

Mike and Tracy

M&T -

Being in trouble is a lifestyle!  (for me)

Going anywhere is out of the question this weekend - it is the end of the month and end of the quarter for PRODUCTION, so I'll be at work.

I did find the setscrew on the bottom (tightened and then loosened 1/2 turn) and took out one more piece.  Can I assume there is a detent holding the cross bolt in, and is it threaded or pressed in?

I am still amazed at the workmanship!

I'm making a few bullet moulds for a 'shoot' up near Allentown on the 16th that DD is putting on (We can shoot #12 and #24 then IF DD can bring hiimself to do it.

I cut the grooves into 7 mould pairs tonight and will install the alignment pins tomorrow night, and bore at least one by Friday.

Smoke and flame WILL get wedged in somewhere in the schedule soon!

No. 24 has been assigned a legitimate fire mission and not a smoke and noise kiddy show either. We should have photo's in the next couple of days.  No 24 is not just another pretty face.

Oh ye of little faith....it was  Ring in the Spring day, I had powder, I had firecrackers, I had caps, do you really think I let that cannon sit on the shelf and gather dust!!!  The one thing I didn't have was fresh batteries in the camera

Oh, Double D., we do have faith, but remember your Boy Scout Motto and remember too, your Shakespeare, the wisdom put forth in the play, Richard III in 1594.  A Kingdom was almost lost for want of a horse!

ALL right!

I was hoping that #24 wouldn't be the 'safe queen' forever.   :D :D :D

Thanks Tim, I'm off the hook now!  'Safe Queen',  wow, what a beauty and safe too,..........................in his Safe!

Almost forgot.  Tim, when you are behind the howitzer, looking at the end of the breech, the .200" dia. allen wrench hole is located at exactly 9  o'clock.  Put the long end of your 3/32" allen wrench in there and way at the bottom you will find the Sliding Breech Block set screw which is also the Breech Block race track guide pin.  To remove the Block, back off the screw by one half turn and to replace the block, slide it in and engage the set screw finger tight, then back off 1/8th turn.

Okay, range report...only powder available, GOEX FG filled chamber.  No. 10 cap, When fired the firecracker  fell out of the end of the barrel---fuse was scorched.  The puff of smoke was big however.

No....

I know, I know,  I didn't follow directions and used the wrong size powder. We had what we had and we used what we had.  It might have worked.

Fg seems a little coarse for so small a charge.

Robert Magill, Todd Johnson, Aaron Eisenbeis, George Gaskill, Matthew Cameron and Andy Kent should be receiving their Krupp cannons in two to three days.

So now I am getting a little anticipatory.  :D

Here's how it went George,  I went to the powder locker, found caps, crackers and powder.  Choice of powders was Fg or nothing, Nothing was not a real option....use what you have was the better choice.

It's raining here now.  Maybe tomorrow night!

DD - you were consistant with the spirit of this board on at least two counts:
a) do what you can with what you have, and
b) start with a charge that is rediculously small!

Lots of smoke was produced and this was good for Him to hide behind when everyone saw where the cracker went this  time out!  This was bad enough, being the second time he tried the large grain powder, but then his buddy comes up with this little diddy to cover his butt:

DD - you were consistant with the spirit of this board on at least two counts:
a) do what you can with what you have, and
b) start with a charge that is rediculously small!

As for the part a) above;  don't you have a teaspoon in your trailer?  Don't you have a cereal bowl available?  Is there a gentle breeze available in the early morning in Maryland?  Do you have a piece of notebook paper, newspaper or grocery sac available?  You know what I'm getting at here.  Put your glasses on.  Safety first, last and always.  Cap your powder can; remove it from the area when you grind the Fg BP down to FFFg BP 10 to 15 grains at a time.  Small quantities equal low risk.  Release the ground-up powder 2 feet above the paper in a gentle breeze and your "fines" will be blown away on the breeze.  Next, pick out the largest granules by hand and toss on the ground.  Approx. FFFg powder will work so much better than Fg powder.  Try it!  You'll see.

Have fun.

As for part b) above, correctomundo!!

George, being anticipatory is one of the fun things in life.  As a 11 or 12 year old, I can remember running out to check the mailbox at the end of our driveway each day after I ordered my 60mm Army Field Gun in 1958, a calcium carbide cannon.  When it finally arrived, I was frantic to de-box it, get some water down the spout and shoot!!

We are making another Brooke!  Photo taken today as Mike turned the rusty round of 4150 rifle barrel steel down from 6.00" to 5.650"  Now we have 4 to make and we will both be back at it full time tomorrow.  They are going to Tennessee, Alabama, Iowa and New York.

Tracy & Mike

P.S.  Nice to meet you, .303SMLE;  I think I recognize that howitzer you have there.
Smokin' my pipe on the mountings, sniffin' the mornin'-cool,

# 11 arrived safely on Tuesday despite the efforts of the postal service to delay it with as much damage to the box as possible.  When I picked it up, the box was marked "damaged in transit".  Two of the corners were pushed in as far as they would go before reaching the internal packing.  Thanks for doing such and excellent job withe= the packing and drop testing, because #11 is still in perfeKt condition!  Going to clean her up and test her out today!

Normally I would not have been home when the mail comes, but I just got home from Georgia and I'm still on vacation until Monday.  Since it's been raining all day, I really haven't done much, so when Dog started barking, I knew the mail had arrived.  I went outside to see the mail lady heaving a Priority Mail box up my steep driveway...

Taking the box inside, I proceeded to peel away layer after layer of packing material, as many of you have already documented on here:

After the plywood, styrofoam, about 50 feet of packing paper and a roll of tape it comes to this...

Seriously?!? Where's the tab I pull to free P4 from his cocoon?  Stop teasing me!

A Krupp Kitty!

Cracker went about 30 feet with a load of 3.5gr of FF.  Had 2 misfires before this success due to operator error.  Lots of fun, probably shot another dozen before the wife complained.
