I think it is something in the background.  Doesn't quite seem to be in focus.

Hi Jeff,    Welcome to the GBO Blackpowder Mortar and Cannon Board!  That sure is a nice looking cannon you have there.  Looks expensive.  Where can a fella get one of those?   ;) ;)

 Tracy and Mike

We dislike links, so we brought this pic forward to show all you new members that these little firecracker guns actually shoot.  In this
frame capture from a short video clip you can see Prototype #2 being fired for two Beta Site customers, Seacoast shop "Hangerounder" #1, Gary on the right and Hangerounder #2, Bruce on the left.  The two old farts in the background are the makers of the Krupp Howitzer yours truly and Mike.

Smokin' my pipe on the mountings, sniffin' the mornin'-cool,
I walks in my old brown gaiters along o' my old brown mule,
With seventy gunners be'ind me, an' never a beggar forgets

It looks like the object sticking out of phsarge's ear is part of a field  cultivator used mostly in dry land farming.  It is 'folded' up for transport down the road.  Can't tell if it is a rod-weeder or a duck foot cultivator.
BTW...really nice looking cannon.

In July, Number 24  will be on the Road to meet the folks on this board...

The first leg will be from  Cut Bank to Boulder City NV-near  Las Vegas.  I will travel down I-15 to get there.  Is any one near I-15 in Montana, Idaho, Utah or Nevada?  I think Intodeep is in Las  Vegas and I will seek him and Corgi out.

The Next  Leg will be to Corning, CA via US 95 and Beatty, Goldfield, Tonapah, Hawthorne, Fallon, Reno, Yuba City, Chico  and Corning.

Then it will be straight up I-5 to Medford,  Anybody in Red Bluff, Redding, Mt. Shasta, Yreka, Ashland. Talent, Phoenix, Medford? I know X-49er is 3 hours west of Redding, but I have to go to Medford on this leg or I would swing west to catch you.

From Medford, I will go up to Grants Pass and through Cave Junction, to Smith River and up the coast through Brooking,Gold Beach, Port Orford, Bandon, Coos Bay-North  Bend, Reedsport to Florence.

From Florence I head east via Eugene, Bend, Burns, Boise, Gooding and up to Challis.

Haven't decide which way to go from Challis home to Cut  Bank,

If you are along that route let me know.  I might only have time for  Coffee but still would like to meet you and shake your hand.

That's a really ambitious road trip, Double D.  Mike and I want to wish you a safe journey.  Too bad you aren't going about 45 miles south of route 80 at about Truckee, CA.  That would bring you within a few miles of Arnold, CA where Division Artillery lives.  I'm sure Ron would let you place your Krupp #24 on that spectacular, historical Chassis that he made for his Krupp.  Now THAT would be a picture!

Anyway, best wishes from the cannon makers in Broomfield.

Tracy and Mike

Ron's fantastic Chassis.

Arnold is more like 130 miles south of Truckee.  That leg from Boulder City to Corning Via Reno is 667 miles.  But if I cut off  and go over the hill at Coaldale over to Bridgeport  and up to Topaz and to Arnold the west from Arnold to I-5 it is 720 miles from Boulder City to Corning.

Since I only need to be in Boulder City for a couple hours, I could head north as soon as my business is completed and over night in Tonapah.  Then do Tonapah-Corning via Arnold.  Only 480 miles, a bit easier on the elderly.  Looks like Arnold be about half way from Tonapah to Corning.

So, Div Arty, what do you say?

No, Houston is not on the list.  How ever after April 3 I will remove my mourning veil and move out off the convent.  Should you have a mid 60's widow sister who likes to cook, clean, gut deer and shoot gophers, who has her own income, and is presentable in public,  I could consider Houston....Submit resume and financial statement.

Div Arty says you are always welcome.  Not planning your trip, but if you take Hwy. 4 from Hwy 395 to Arnold, you will see the Sierra's at its best.  We have coffee, but plan to stay for supper and breakfast also.  Talk at ya latter.     209  795  7624

Seacoast, thanks for the suggestion and I am glad you still know where I live.

Stay well    Ron

For those of you new to this post it was originally started by the great guys at Seacoast Artillery when they had their limited edition promotion of the Krupp Firecracker Cannons.

When the Krupp guns became available my late wife and I had just started a road trip to the east to see sight and grand-kids.  We swung down to Colorado picked our Krupp gun, straight for the Arsenal.  As the wife and I continued our trip when ever we encountered the folks from the board we took there picture with Number 24 of the limited edition Krupp Firecracker cannon.

I have made it a practice to take Number 24 on my trips and continued taking pictures of you folks along the way.

It has made this post the most replied to on GBO Cannons and one of the  second most replied to on all of GBO.

Looks like you have a great road trip planned, Double D.  Lots of interesting GBO members live along that route and I bet you'll have fun visiting.  Since you brought it up, I thought maybe I could add just a few facts about how different your #24 Krupp Howitzer is from the one we kept which is prototype No. P1.  Those members who have followed this saga will remember that Gulfcoastblackpowder bought the very last prototype, No. P4 and, as such, it has all the dimensional changes that the production numbers have.

P1, however, is a completely different story.  The most significant difference is the fact that P1 has a bore drilled with a twist drill.  Because of its small dia., 5/16" dia. (.3125"), it did not need to be finished with a boring bar.  Although this gun functions adequately, the bore is curved an astounding .171" in just 6 inches, proving to us beyond any doubt that twist drilled bores need boring to a larger size to straighten them out.  We did not have time to do this so we invested $200 in two gundrills which drill extremely straight holes in much less time.  That's how we came to offer the bores in two different sizes, 5/16" and 9mm, optimum sizes for firecrackers and crayons.

Pushing a cracker into our P1 is difficult, because it does not have the loading port with an extra .200" length like P4 and all which followed.  Also, our Krupp has Hoop construction which is detailed in this thread via photos.  Production guns have machined from solid stock to save time and Mike's fingers.  He carried the hoop or built-up gun, P1 from the oven at 300 degrees F. to the shop for assy and then to the kitchen for water cooling with light, deerskin driving gloves for better "feel"!  He felt that heat alright!!

Our elevation wedge is shaped wrong and skips and skids as a result and our gun has a 1/2" shorter cheeks, so it doesn't look as sleek as those owned by GBO members.  The elevation screw assy. was improved to work smoother too, ours sticks a little.  The one item on our gun which had the latest changes was the Striker Assembly.  We went through 9 prototypes of this essential mechanism to make it sure-fire, reliable and most important, SAFE.

All in all it was our first real product that we designed and manufactured from scratch.  The 1/6 scale museum guns don't count here, because they are all hand and machine made with absolute quality, authenticity and no efficiency of numbers in mind.

 FYI,

 Tracy & Mike

P.S.  Have a safe trip, Double D. and take plenty o' pics.

Thanks M&T for the safe trip best wishes.  Sadly this trip has three specific objectives, stopping by to meet the GBO folks is a sidebar and an up beat note to the Trip.

Monday July 23, I inter my Mother-in-laws ashes in her husbands grave in Boulder City, NV.  Thursday July 26 I inter my wife Katherine's ashes in her Grandfathers grave in Medford.  Friday July 27 I will cast old friend Mr. Rudy's ashes upon the ocean.

Saturday July 28th things get better as all my kids- all of them will join me and my Dad and all the aunts, uncle and cousins for a Family reunion.

Then its back to Montana.

Thanks for the prayers.   It been a while since each passed, and this will turn the page on this part of my life.

There a lot of cannon shooting left in my life.  Taking Number 24 with , makes for some lighter moments in an other wise somber trip.

Maybe I should take Number 24's picture with my family.

If you guys don't mind, I'd like a Krupp gun model exactly like this one in the Copenhagen Naval Museum.  Yes, plated gears and all.  Just send me the bill when you're done.  Unfortunately this is the only pic I have of it, I don't even know the scale of this model.  I gotta have one though.
