New Model Blackhawk 41 Mag Grips
« on: July 08, 2010, 07:59:41 AM »
Recently purchased Ruger New Model 41 Mag and it has the internal safety. Tried to fit some Hogue grips and had some issues not fitting correctly. Does anyone have some info where I can purchase grips for the newly incorporated Ruger Model Blackhawks

Many of the aftermarket grip manufacturers are now selling grips with a cut for the Ruger internal safety.  Depending on how much you want to spend, take a look at CLC Grips.  Also, there are several other members at the Ruger Forum (.com, not .net) who make grips.

CLC makes the nicest grips I've ever seen, but if you're looking to spend a little less, then Gunbroker.com always has some nice grips available. I just recently used that site to purchase some real stag grips that look GREAT on my .41 mag Blackhawk! Also purchased a stainless steel grip frame and stainless steel base pin. Put 'em all together and my Blackhawk really looks special.

Klamath River Woodworking makes beautiful grips.  Also check the items that 41 magnum and Pvt Shultz offers on Ruger Forum.

They're two of the folks that I was referring to earlier.

What is an "internal saftey"?  I guess you aren't referring to the transfer bar if it causes a conflict with grip fit.  I have a NM Blackhawk in 41M that I ordered new about 8 years ago and it wears a one piece Hogue mono-grip on it that I installed without issue.

It's not an internal safety.  They're talking about the internal lock in the new Ruger grip frames.  It locks with a key to keep the hammer from being cocked.

The lock only interferes with grips on the New XR3 grip frame since the locks are wider than the grip frame.  The guns that still have the XR3-RED style grip frames with locks have no problem since they are wider than the locks.

I feel your pain.  I tried to do the hogue grips and it gouged up my frame some.  Luckily the damage isn't really visible with grips in place.  I haven't really found any that sing to me that will work on the Locking NMB.  The guy at Badger said he had some that might work, then replied he only stocked what was on the site.  8(  I may check out the ruger forum guys as well.

I swapped out the original grip frame for a SB and put Pachmayrs on it, and it fits my long hands better

There shouldn't be any clearance issues between the new fangled lock assembly and the grip panels on a .41 mag. Blackhawk unless the gun is a Flattop.  In that case the lock is a wee bit wider than the grip fame which then requires a small relief cut on each grip panel.

Here's a pic of the lock assembly as installed on the steel XR-3 grip frames utilized on the New Vaqueros and the new Flattops.
