722 IN 223
« on: July 11, 2010, 08:40:19 AM »
My local sporting goods store has a 722 in a 223 on the used rack.  It has been rebarreled by a local, very good smith.  The stock and receiver are in pretty good shape.  I have never owned a 722, only 700's.  They are asking $360 for the rifle.  Is this an OK deal?  Oh, and I don't know what make the new barrel is.  Thanks in advance for any information or insight.

bigswede, I have had a number of 721's and 722's..Personally, I like them very much...the main draw back at present is the extractor is different from the current 700's...if it breaks, there could be difficulty in getting a new one..and perhaps expensive...that is the ONLY draw back that I know of concerning this rifle...perhaps someone can shed some light on the availability of exractors for these rifles...my pal had an 06 altered with a sako type extractor...except for this, I have no difficult in purchasing one...infact I would like to locate a 721 .300 H & H....

I have one chambered for the 300 Savage.  The price might be a little on the high side, but it's not outrageous.  I wouldn't hesitate to buy it at that price if the barrel looks good.

Thanks for the info guys,  I've been mulling it over and might go down this weekend and see if he'll come down a little on the price.
