What Is Your Dream caliber in a Lever Action Rifle?
« on: July 11, 2010, 05:29:57 PM »
Is there a certain caliber that you wish a manufacturer would make
available in a lever action rifle? Tell us about that dream caliber and
the manufacturer you wish would make it.

Kindly,

Marlin
A)Rimfire.
26" barrel
in 32 Rim fire or 32 S&W.
Quiet litte back yards and small game rifle.

B) Cowboy rifle in stead of 45-70 in 30-30.

I have one in 357 magnum in a Model 92 clone with a 24" octagon barrel, and I have real Winchester Model 94 I got new in 1958 in 3030. I would like to have a REAL Winchester Model 94 (PRE 64) in 3030 with a 24" octagon barrel. I saw one once, but it wasn't for sale.
I had an 1895 Cowboy in 4570 and it was nice, I guess I would settle for a Marlin in 3030 in the CB configuration if I had to.

I would like more choice in affordable take down models.  I like to carry my guns in a suitcase while out travelling my sales route, Canadian oilpatch.

I'm a sucker for 218 Bee and 22 Hornet

A Rossi 92 in 256 Magnum

An 1886 take down in 303 Brit, or even better a Model 71 take down in 303 Brit.

I don't really have any dream caliber/gun wishes but I'd like to see a lever in .327 magnum.

New Marlin action to fit the .460S&W and .500S&W.

As the name indicates a Browning lever in 260 stainless, no sights, drilled and tapped, 20 in. barrel.

BLRNut,

I've got one of those. Of course I had a early jap made BLR rebarreled in 260. I did have a slightly heavier contour stainless barrell put on. It balances well and is a shooter. You can have one too. With the atractive prices on used pre-81 browning BLRs it's really cost effective compaired to a new BLR. JMO

I don't really think of the BLR when I think about lever action rifles.

I'm with swampman, I'd like to see a marlin come out with a new action for the 500 S&W.  A trapper model with a straight buttstock and slim forearm would really make me drool if they kept the price under $800.

I think a .327 would be very tempting. Would make a cool coyote gun for farm and woodlots and a nice companion to a Blackhawk.

35 Whelen or 338wm in a BLR.  I think everything in round/flat nose cartridges is covered except maybe a Marlin in a 460 SW that would be backwards compatable with 454 Catsul, and 45 LC.

.32-20 in something other than a thousand dollar '92 clone.

Amen!!
Why does not winchester make a 92 model winchester  and the 94 Model ? You would also think the307W 94 BB might make a come back since Marlin has the 308 ME . The big bores were ahead of there time , with out the marketing .Years ago you could buy a 375 W almost for the price of the box they came in , but buy a used one now !!
They would not need fancy stocks or metal with engraving or gold enlays . A working mans gun with a plain barrel/ reciever and stock at an affordable price .
The current Japan 94 model might catch an eye for the collector , but does nothing for the average person who needs some thing to hunt with . I bought a used 307 BB because I wanted the 307 type cartrige in a winchester lever ,not a collector gun just as a keep sake .  Other than that a  Savage 99 might also  work . then since they are no longer made , the price is getting up there for a used .
Oh ! a 92 in something like a 44 Mag or 454 C . would make a slick deer hunter .

If they were to expensive to make , then Marlin is selling the ME rifles at a good price and "still" getting "orders" .
Yes I would buy a winchester made in Japan with out the fancy enlay and silver reciever . And need not a cup holder , just a plain Jane.
WellGuess I am old and living in the past and these guns will never again be made . But there are indeed those that follow our steps and indeed missing some thing we enjoyed

OK, I'll be different. How about a short, lightweight levergun like a Marlin 1894 in 40 S&W and/or 45 ACP? Tactical CQB levergun! Plus it'd be fun to plink with and cheap to shoot.

Calibers in a lever gun...

In Winchester firearms:

Pistol Calibers: .25-20, .32-20, .38-40, .44-40...

Rifle Calibers: .40-65, .45-70...

Bill

I'm just wondering what pistols were chambered in 25/20WCF?  I always thought it was a rifle cartridge...
