A nice rifle
« on: July 12, 2010, 10:41:59 AM »
Just ran across this Weatherby Mark XXll at a local gun shop.  Mine now.  This rifle is mint, and I believe unfired.  High gloss blueing, and pretty wood.  I have always wanted one of these, just never found one before with the right wood, or in nice enough shape.  I just mounted the scope so I can try it out tomorrow.  If its seems accurate and reliable, I'll invest in better glass for it.  The factory test target shows about 3/4 inch for 3 shots at 50 yards.

Does anyone who owns one have any info or tips to pass on?

My wife gave one to me around 34 years ago. It shoots more accurately if I hold the pistol grip very tightly. It will shoot 1-inch 10-shot groups at 50 yards with match ammo. With good hunting ammo like Winchester hollow points it will keep 7 to 9 of the 10 shots in an inch but there are fliers. I found it shoots best with Eley sub-sonic hollow points. I put a 2-7X Leupold RF scope on mine. Also, sometime I may hollow out the forend of the stock and put some lead weight there for a better, more foreward balance.

A buddy of mine has had one of them since the late 70's early 80's. If I remember right his has the Weatherby Mark XXII Scope on it also. They sure are a nice rifle with some features that I really liked. I thought the select fire option in which you could have the bolt stay locked open after each shot was a neat feature for the times when one shot is all that is needed.

:o WOW :o

Beautiful rifle sir and if it shoots half as good as it looks I'm sure you'll be more than satisfied with your new acquisition.
