TRENDING: Bristol Palin, Levi Johnston engaged
Posted: July 14th, 2010 07:25 AM ET

Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston are engaged, according to US Weekly.
(CNN) - Bristol Palin and the father of her child, Levi Johnston, are engaged, the magazine Us Weekly said Wednesday in a statement.

The magazine reported on the engagement in an online edition Wednesday.

The couple told Us Weekly, that former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin did not know about their plans until recently.

"We got engaged two weeks ago," the magazine quotes 19-year-old Bristol Palin as saying. "It felt right, even though we don't have the approval of our parents."

The couple did not tell Bristol's mother, Sarah Palin, about their plans until recently, the magazine reports. Sarah Palin's reaction was not reported. "It is intimidating and scary just to think about what her reaction is going to be. Hopefully she will jump on board," the magazine quotes Bristol as saying.

I felt that Levi was treated harshly by Sarah and Bristol. He made some nasty counter accusations (Sarah does not know how to shoot a gun) and then, out of the blue 2 weeks ago, he apologized. I think he is getting some.

This has the power to move mountains.  :o I like Gov. Palin.  That being said, that "some" he must be getting must be phenominal.  Could you imagine publicly saying the things he said about his then ex-future mother-in-law then crawling back?  Poor boy.  40 years of purgatory ahead of him.
This that I do, I do by my own free will.

Or not...Levi is an attention whore, hoping to hitch his wagon to fame. He didn't get any more lucrative "offers" after the Playgirl magazine spread, but Bristol did get a chance of an acting role. And her mother is becoming more popular, not less, since the VP candidate debacle. He's looking to get connected. He's one of many lazy young people, who would rather get rich and famous off of somebody else, rather than do the work themself to succeed.
Levi is one smarmy fellow.

We have been burned by the likes of palin before. I say this from the candadates she has been pushing or campaining for.
She wants to hook her belt over the rails of the Tea Party wagon but wants to campain for liberals and progressives. Those the people need to remove from office.
We dont need any more scott browns. I dont see palin as more than an opertunist and I have tried.
With that being said. Her daughter has nothing to do with it.
Those of you who have perfect kids and family, I compliment you and may they always be that way.
The families I have been around and know, have their up and downs and one of the big downs is that the sons and daughters dont always marry the person they think is best. On the other side, the family of the person they marry dont think they did good either. Most dont make it.
The marriage between Bristol and Levi may work. The odds are against them but if they work at it, it can be a beautiful thing. Lets hope so.

Difference being, other families don't parade their shorcomings in front of the media. Before I get chastised with the old rant, "but they didn't ask for the publicity", everybody in politics plays the media like a gambler, hoping for face time, but praying their little secrets aren't discovered. Well if Bristol marries Levi, may it last as long as she wants. She may actually enjoy wearing the pants in the family, and bringing home the bacon.....at least till she finally comprehends the meaning of the word "pimping".

First of all Levi is a no account leach.  His mother is a convicted drug dealer, and he is no better than her.  Yes he was a Hocky player, and the dirtiest one on Wasillia's team.  He was not well liked amoungst the team players.  If it is true, and Levi and Bristol are going to get married, maybe she can straighten him out.  As a teen Bristol did not have the strength her mother has, but maybe after her life experiences she has toughened up.  It will take a tough woman to handle Levi.  I can't really tell you my true feeling about Levi.  GB would delete it.

Wreckhog:  Don't know where you dreamed up that little bit about her not knowing how to shoot.  Proves you don't know anything about her.  She can probably out shoot you.  Sara's father taught all his kids to shoot at a very young age, which is typical Alaskan behavior.

Dukkillr:  Yes Hockey is like Alaska's NASCAR.  Much bigger than Football.  Every high school has a hockey team, few have football teams.  My son Skyler decided he wanted to play when he was 3.  Sky started playing competatively when he was five.  Then when he started high school he played on two teams every year till he graduated high school.  Then he continued playing on the competative team thru his first year in college.  Sky's teams played against the Wasilla teams several times a year.  Either we went to Wasilla or they came up here to Fairbanks.  Wasilla has the best Sports Complex in the state, thanks to Sara Palin, as Mayor.  I met Sara and Todd many times during hocky games.  I also met Track Sara's oldest, he is a fine young man.  I also know several of Track's fellow soldiers from his Army unit here on Ft Wainwright.  Track is highly respected amoungst his peers.

I met Levi Johnston as well during hocky games.  Like I said earlier, Levi is one of the dirtiest players I ever saw.  It was not uncommon for Levi to get ejected from the game for dirty playing.  During the Playoffs in Wasilla in 2005, Levi decided to start cup checking.  Use your imagination and you can figure that out.  Todd Palin and I got into a shouting match over Levi getting sent to the penalty box.  Then I pointed out Levi was cup checking and Todd started watching Levi, Todd caught sight of what he was doing.  Todd then came over and apologised, saying he had missed that earlier.  Todd then went over and had a talk with the caoch.  Anyway Levi tried that on Sky.  Wrong move, Sky left him laying on the ice.  Levi was carried off the ice and spent the rest of the period on the bench recouperating.  Next period Levi came out and went for Sky.  Sky protected himself, and left Levi laying on the ice again.  The reffs saw it and put Levi in the penalty box for 2 minutes.  When his 2 minutes was up Levi came out and went straight for Sky.  Everyone in the stands could see Levi was locked on Sky and was going directly after him, for a cross check attempt.  Again Sky was ready and left Levi laying on the ice.  This attack was so obvious the reffs put Levi back in the penalty box for 5 minutes this time.  After his five minutes, when Levi came out of the penalty box he locked his eyes on Sky and straight at Sky he went.  Levi's coach was yelling for him to come into the players box and get off the ice, but Levi was not listening.  Levi tried to hit Sky in the head with his stick, Sky countered and the gloves and helmets came off.  Fist went to flying.  It took three refs and two coaches to break it up.  Both players were ejected.  Took ten minutes to get the blood off the ice, before they would let the game continue.  None of the blood was Sky's.

I don't always agree with Sara, but Sara at least tries to do what she thinks is best for the community, city, state, or country.  And she is at least in touch with her constituantes, and she listens.

Thank you for that insight and observation. Levi is one smarmy fellow. And he's pretty transparant about it. The Palin family would do well to totally distance themselves from this guy. However, knowing the quaint romantic history of Sara and her husband's humble but loving beginnings, as a couple, kinda easy to see that Bristol may be trying to imitate that with a local boy. And at her young age, with mom and dad busy on the road in politics, also easy to see that Bristol may be doing a little bit of rebelling. But with Levi, that's a dangerous kind of rebelling. Bristol has more stars in her eyes, than brains right now.

bearmgr:  I'm afraid you might be right.  Bristol got into trouble the first time because her Mother was in Juneau (the state capital) hundreds of miles away.  Todd was on the North Slope working, hundreds of miles away.  Track and Bristol stayed at home so Bristol could continue high school with their friends.  Track was working, since he had graduated high school.  That left Bristol home alone at times.  Levi took advantage of the situation.  Bristol was nieve, and Levi was smooth, and a Jock.

Ummmm, I read the news. Say what you will about Levi, he knows the Palins better than anyone here. She has never refuted this story. And she spells it Sarah.

Sarah Palin's presidential hopes crushed as Levi Johnston claims she can't even shoot a gun
Sarah Palin, the former governor of Alaska who built her reputation on her rugged application of motherhood, does not actually fish and has no idea how to use her own gun, according to her daughter's former boyfriend.

By Alex Spillius in Los Angeles

Since running as Senator John McCain's vice-presidential candidate, senior campaign officials have described Sarah Palin as inept, ignorant and egocentric. Levi Johnston, the teenager who Mrs Palin embraced as part of her family last year when it emerged during the presidential campaign that he had impregnated her 17-year-old daughter, turned against the family in an interview with Vanity Fair, painting the former governor as a selfish woman who took little interest in her children.

He claimed that Mrs Palin, whose fans boasted she could "field dress a moose", was incapable of handling a gun kept in the family home in Wasilla.

She says she goes hunting and lives off animal meat - I've never seen it," said Mr Johnston, 19. "I've never seen her touch a fishing pole.

"She had a gun in her bedroom and one day she asked me to show her how to shoot it. I asked her what kind of gun it was, and she said she didn't know, because it was in a box under her bed.

I watch the news and it showed her shooting a machine gun mounted on a vehicle while reviewing NG troops .
Only a fool would put faith in the words of a youth with sour grapes on his mind.

As far as her comming back about his remark , when you get down in the mud with a pig you get muddy and start to look like the pig . Why would such a fine lady want to get muddy ?

Levi lied, and now he is admitting he lied.  But some people don't want to hear the truth.  They are hung up on the lies Levi and the Media put forth.  How many people saw Sarah out in Bristol bay taking fish out of the nets.  It was on the news when they did an interview with her on the fishing grounds.

As a typical kid growing up in Alaska she learned to shoot a gun when she small.  Even if her Father had not have taught her Todd would have taught her the first chance he got.  Todd is a native and they start shooting as soon as they can hold a gun.  I know it is part of their culture to go out and take Moose and Bears.

Oh ok, like maybe he lied about admitting he lied? Yeah, that may sound like Levi...if he gets kicked to the curb again, which seems to be his habit, getting kicked to the curb/or the ice alot. He may be smooth, but ultimately not too smart. Let the pot stirring continue.

Hope he gets and can stay straight if this latest situation continues.

Reminds me a bit of that Karate Kid movie. Though in that one, it was the kid that was good, and the coach that made him bad. Ask yourself why Levi was still on the team after that behavior. Hmmmmm.

If you watched Fox News, The lady, I can't think of her name, that comes on after O'Reily, went the Alaska for a week.  Did a daily interview with the Palins.  She was preparing moose meat for dinner.  She also uses, I think it was, a 7mm Mag, because it kicked lighter than a 338WM to hunt moose.  She also used a 7mm08 I think it was.  I know it was a 7mm something to hunt with.  So where did that info come from.  You can't get all your news from CNN.  You have to also watch Fox and read NRA mags for the truth sometimes.

Greta Van Sestron interviewed Bristol Palin here in Fairbanks, during the Iron Dog Snow Machine race.  I think Greta may also have interviewed Sarah down in Wasilla.

I do hope Levi has gotten his head straight.  I also hope the Media will stay out of their lives.  It's up to them as to wheather they will ignore the media or let them ruin their relationship, just for ratings.  Levi has had some insight so maybe he will stay away from the fame.

I do hope they can make a go of it.

Gotta love the Title of this thread & reading the goofy comments of those who make sure the "saga" continues & the Libs, progressives, etc. feed on this stuff. Personally, I don't care about Bristol or Levi or the whole deal. Therefore it is unlikely that you will see me start a thread about any of them or be concerned about what they do. Actually, I don't even pay much attention to Sara herself one way or the other & sure don't feel compelled to wory about those who happen to be in the family.  ???   But seeing the concerns of those who hate the Palins is amusing & keeps them veery much alive. Looks like the Palin haters still have issues!  ;D

Well, I for one, hope that Levi,''Mans up'', and figure's out that there is responsibility in life. Real easy to make a child, different story to spend 18-20+ years to raise them. Not sure if any of them wanted all this publicity. Nobody ever heard of any of them till Sarah got picked for VP.
Too many kids being brought up with one parent. All kids need a father. Teach them how to fish, shoot, play catch.Work! Put a boot in there butt and scream'' What the Hell did you do that for". Maybe he's matured. Hope so. gypsyman

When you give interviews to Vanity Fair (Levi last year) or US Weekly (Bristol last week). you are not trying to avoid publicity, you are screaming for more.

I think that there is statistical data that kids without fathers, or cold, absentee fathers, become mentally ill more so than kids with good fathers that are around.
