Five more American soldiers have lost their lives in Afghanistan’s volatile south, bringing to 12 the number of foreign soldiers killed over the past 48 hours.
NATO’s International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said on Wednesday that four of the soldiers lost their lives in a bomb attack, while the other one was killed in a gunfight with the Taliban in the volatile south.
The latest casualties come a day after seven NATO soldiers — four British and three American — were killed in the war-torn country.

Meanwhile, Taliban spokesman Qari Yousuf Ahmadi claimed that militants have killed 13 American troops and seven Afghan soldiers during an attack on a military outpost in Kandahar.
Over 350 foreign troops have been killed in Afghanistan so far this year.
Some 140,000 US-led troops are currently stationed Afghanistan. A further 10,000 are expected to be deployed there in the coming weeks.
NATO’s mounting death toll has caused public support to plummet for the Afghan war across Europe and the US.
Meanwhile, results of a CBS poll show most Americans believe the war in Afghanistan is a no-win scenario.
The poll says 60 percent of American people think the war is being handled badly.
Fifty-one percent of Americans want the US government to set a date for the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan.

I know we can get a little myopic when it comes to the "War on Terror" and making sure we keep our troops are as safe as possible, but, has anyone noted the strategic (as opposed to tactical) events that are taking place in the Chinese TO?

We used Afghanistan to suck the Russian military dry because every country only has so much DGP to spend on the military. We made Russia spend a highly disproportionate amount on tactical warfare and they were left unable to compete with us on a strategic level.

In our effort to thwart all things middle-eastern it sure looks like we might be playing into a similiar scenario with the far-east.
With faith, all is possible. Not easy, but possible.

Yes, it would be nice to learn from OTHERS mistakes & even history, but I guess not.

I have been saying this very same thing for several years now. It is nice to see that others have recounted some history. Alexander the Great, and England are other examples of taking on a terrain and 15th century war lord cultures. We need to pull our troops out of all middle eastern countries, and leave a few million tons of airdropped bombs, and then all the AK47s and ammo they need to go back to shooting each other.
You may all go to hell, I will go to Texas. Davy Crockett

Under the rules of engagement our troops are having to fight under it is no wonder they are losing so many! I sure as hell wouldn't want to go to war under such rules of engagement!
Obama is getting our troops killed to protect the rag heads! He knows when our body count gets high enough , the people will demand we get out and let the rag heads win!

Total war, no quarter given. Everything else is bravo sierra. Four years to defeat nazi germany. If the US does not have the stomach to eliminate the enemies ability to conduct warfare, ability to communicate, the ability to conduct commerce, ability to transport, the ability to re populate their nation in three generations, well then, they should just stay home. What will americans say when their nation is bankrupt, and all the fiat they have in the bank isn't worth squat?
