New 4" Charter Target Pathfinder 22/22Mag Upgraded

Through the kindness of a fellow GBO member, who made them avaiable to me, I upgraded the issue rubber bumpers on my new Charter Arms 4" Target Pathfinder Dual-Cylinder Combo revolver, from this (on left, below w/Taurus 941):



To this (below) - the walnut, target-type, square-butt grips, issued with 70's-era Charters
(with my -70's Pathfinder/Bulldog grips):



IMHO, the larger gips not only feel better to me, they also make the gun look a lot better - THANKS, Dick ! !

Rubber grips do have their advantages, but in my  opinion looks isn't one of them!

I agree, it looks much nicer with the wood grips!

Boy those are great and way Kool ! I have a Charter Pathfinder 4" just like yours but without the 22mag conversion. I have been toying with the idea of making some wood grips . I have got them figured out but I would sure like somebody that has made some to post some tips.

I agree, and I do like the looks and feel of the 'Bulldog' grips.  But they do bite a lot more then the rubber grips when fired on a 44!  44 Man

If you like it well enough to change grips can I assume you are happy with it? I keep talking myself out of buying the Mag-pug Target in 327 to get more gun than my Single Six.

My 4" Charter Target Pathfinder Dual Cylinder was made & given to me by the CA Prexy, as a warranty replacement for a troublesome .22Mag-only 4" Target Pathfinder, almost two years ago - and has been flawless.

Yes, I'm happy enough to keep & use it.  
The vintage square-butt target grips make it even more enjoyable to me.

Is it as good/nice as the .22mag S&W Kit Gun I had once upon a time ?
Of course not - but then, it only cost me half of what a .22Mag Kit Gun would, IF I could find one.
(I couldn't, locally, in the last 20 years)


Crow Juice: Why fool around and try to make grips, when NOS factory wood grips are all over the web for $25-$30 ?
Unless, of course, you just wanna try yore hand.

Sounds like the stand behind their products. I understand the Mag-Pug target is no S&W Model 60 either, but about a third the price. If I was looking for a serious concealed carry weapon then The Price would be less important.

I guess we're all different. I have never experienced any discomfort with the Bulldog walnut grips but 20 rounds from a Bulldog with rubber grips raised a dime size blister on the web of my hand. My theory on that is that the walnut grips slip a bit in my hand during recoil and slip again to return to position after recoil. The rubber grips grab the skin and take it along for the ride, exceeding the skin's elastic limit and causing a blister. Also, the walnut grips are much wider at the top than are the rubber grips, thus distributing recoil forces over a much larger area of the hand. The rubber covering the backstrap is far too thin to offer any real cushion effect. The only reason for rubber grips is that they are very much cheaper than walnut.
