Oil leak stopped???
« on: July 15, 2010, 05:12:59 PM »
Well for the first time in 87 days there  isn't oil pouring into the gulf!  Last I saw the oil was gushing out at over 300psi.  How long do you think it will take the pressure to build up and blow the cap, one of the relief wells, or the ocean floor?

All I can say is, thank you Lord. Now pray it holds. They said on the news that the pressure in the pipe is around 6,700 psi. POWDERMAN.  :o :o

Scary the damage already done and even scarier the damage it could still do. Sorry, but living in lodges, hunting for food, being at one with the Creater and all living things just don't seem all that primitive to me. Progress is just a word coined to cover man's greed for more and things like this oil fiasco just drives the point home.

My view is that British Patrolium should be banned from drilling in the US.  They should be forced to sell off their assets and never be allowed to do any business again on US soil.

If it hasn't already been done, a pipe should be connected to the cap and that well should be allowed to run and fill a steady steam of tankers until it runs dry.  I would allow the repair drilling to approach but not breach the gushing shaft unless something else goes wrong.

I'm not happy that the explosion and leak happened, but things like that are bound to happen once in a while. All things considered, I think that BP did a pretty good job of dealing with the technical fixes needed to stop the leak.

The things that really went horribly wrong were the containment and the leadership aspects of it. Big oil leaks are nothing new and containment methods are pretty good, all things considered. I simply cannot understand why this was not made a top priority immediately. There is a widespread opinion that the oil was allowed to leak deliberately and I tend to believe this is true because no organization could be so incompetent as to allow a slick like that to spread for months while plenty of containment options were available.

There has recently been a flurry of articles in all news media focusing on the incompetence of Obama on many matters. I believe this oil event was "the last straw" that shows that incompetence can only be hidden for so long.

It appears we are at the point where:
1) Obama's honeymoon with the public is over
2) He can no longer use the "I inherited this mess" argument for any purpose
3) His popularity, and the popularity of his party is about to take a historic plunge

Meanwhile we need to remember that the republicans offer no sensible alternatives to the problems we face. And we must remember that they too were rejected by the public dramatically for good reasons just a couple of years ago.

That is a good start. We need to Gitmo Tony Hayward.

I agree, except with the GITMO part. Depositions from surviving workers strongly suggest that BP management wanted and demanded that the well be filled fast, too fast by standard operating procedures. The pressure was too great, and it blew. They did not have the proper equipment to prevent the blowout, even though BP guaranteed it did have the safety mechanisms in place. They were cutting corners, to sell the rig to someone else in a hurry.

I live very close to the spill.  We need the oil.  I hope we don't stop drilling.

Most people can't live 3 days without AC and cold beer.  I know this first hand living on the Gulf of Mexico.

Hollywood dream visions aside, eating bugs and living in bark huts probably isn't going to work anytime soon.

This was totally unnessecery, BP should have been watched over more closely.  They already had a record of cutting corners, and taking chances.  The government watchdogs should be in jail for not doing their jobs.

But the true blame belongs to Enviromental Groups that force us to go out to sea to drill wells.  We have lots of oil on shore that the environmental groups keep locked up.

The Indians were not nearly as eco friendly as some here like to think or maybe just pretend. In the east when the land they were farming wore out, witch was rapidly. They moved over and burned down another forest! With the trees dead it would let in enough sunlight to grow crops.
They are many other instances of abuse of the environment by the Indians. They did what they had to survive, just like people today!
