Chick Tracts
« on: July 15, 2010, 05:21:23 PM »
Greetngs Faithful,

I remember Jack T. Chick from the underground comix era. I was struck by a Christian message amist a sewer of comic books way beyond decency.
Recently I came across the Chick Publications website, and I see he continued to produce tracts and comic books that are still available.

Over a period he took on; Satanists, Psychics, homosexuals, islam, The Pope, Mormons, Masons and various other forms of evil.
Chick felt that there is a vast historic conspiracy between the Vatican and tyrants to exterminate believers
including the Jewish people.

In cartoon form, the tracts are simple, clear and short. You may not agree with
the message of some tracts, however most are powerful testimony. He is attempting to
save a few souls [and make a few dollars].

The site allows you to view the tracts, so you don't have to buy anything.
A very interesting body of work.

Jack Chick is that odd-ball guy who hates Catholics, isn't he? I heard somewhere he thinks that Islam was founded by... the Catholic church. Is it true???

Jesus said we should treat other as we'd want to be treated... and he didn't qualify that by their party affiliation, race, or even if they're of diff religion.

Chick perverts Christianity into a hate-mongering cult.  His message of closed minded hate has nothing in common with what the King of Glory preached.

I think Chick is right on the money.  His tracks are very factual.

Click is so far off base on many of his writings that he is considered a fanatic by a large majority of the people who read his works.  His comments about Masonry are totally false, Masons do not worship a false god, they can believe in whatever they wish, and the only requirement is they believe in a deity. He writes, “To be a Mason, you must first take an oath that is, in reality, a denial of Jesus Christ,” totally wrong, a person is asked, “in whom do you place your trust,” at this point the candidate may answer Jesus Christ, God, Buddha, Mohammad, or whoever is recognized by their particular religion.  Masonry encourages its members to attend their church and worship according to their beliefs.

He often refers to Masonry as a “Secret Society,” this is also false, Masonry like many other fraternal groups has secrets, but they are not a secret society most anything you want to know about Masonry can be found on the web.

I agree with Click on one issue, there are fanatics in Masonry who look upon it as a religion, but then again there are fanatics in almost every religious group as well. I have been a Mason for almost 45 years; I am also a member of the Baptist Church.  It should also be noted that one of the individuals from the SBC who investigated Masonry and published the Report on Freemasonry” in 1993, the report listed many Masonic teachings that were presented as being completely contrary to the Scriptures. First, the people who wrote the report were not Masons and had little or limited “real” knowledge of the fraternity.  Even so, after the report, two of those who wrote it petitioned and later became Masons themselves.

The report also commended Freemasonry for its many charitable projects. Masonry is responsible for public education in many states; here in Texas they provided a schoolhouse in most early communities at no cost to the public.  They are also responsible for the latest innovations in medicine treating burn and cripple patients, children under the age of 18 are treated at any Masonic, Scottish Rite, York Rite, or Shriner (All Masons) facility free of charge.  We often pay the expenses of a parent or guardian to accompany a child being treated in our facilities.

I don’t know what motivated Chick to write some of his works but I can truly say he didn’t hit a home run on all of them.

Often we are advised to accept Scripture entirely and as written. Chick's views are a reflection of his opinion and as such we can logically 'pick and choose'. Accept or reject any or all of what Chick writes. I think some of his views are pretty zaney. I think his works dealing with our relationship to God are right on the mark. Example: "Satan wrote the Vulgate" That I doubt. Example: The devil will not bargain for your soul, without Jesus he already has it. That I believe to be correct.

Well, it's for sure God had nothing to do with the Vulgate.

God wrote the 1611 King James Bible.

I don’t know what motivated Chick to write some of his works but I can truly say he didn’t hit a home run on all of them.

As a new believer, I was fed Chick tracts. Took me many years to overcome the effect of that. On Jack's motives... well, he thinks that God is on HIS side, and that he's right, so he churns 'em out... and they appeal to others who are convinced God is on Their Side. Fundamentalists and Gullibles.

God wrote the 1611 King James Bible.

Oh... hmm...

Jesus said we should treat other as we'd want to be treated... and he didn't qualify that by their party affiliation, race, or even if they're of diff religion.
