You are kidding right?What about someone who had a disability, and was turned down when trying to join......say the Army to defend their country? Should they not be allowed to vote?

I can just see it now! After 20 years of allowing only veterans and active duty citizens to vote, a Buck Private would take home about 10 grand a month base pay.

Some say only property owners......"How about only" veterans who own property?
At one time women couldn't vote, so perhaps some women would like to see only female veteran property owners voting...............PAY BACK!!!!!

I think every American citizen should vote. Even those who have served time and payed their debt to society.
We owe it to ourselves to research each candidate. Especially their voting record, before casting that ballot.
With the invention of the internet, this info is only a few clicks away.

I wonder if our founders were thinking about all of this when they asked Washington to be King? The most moral, patriotic, freedom loving generation in the history of our country seriously contemplated a monarchy. Perhaps they saw mob rule on the horizon. I'm sure one day political historians will lecture on the predictable 200 year cycle of democracy from inception to socialism. What our founders envisioned was a democracy within a republic of sovereign states; what we have is a very very far cry from that. So it is absurd to argue for the perpetuity of what we have now on the basis of their vision - they are not the same.

No, if you want elections to be meaningful, you must also advocate for state sovereignty and empower Governors to be that check and balance against the federal executive. You must also reject the bipartisan system we've drifted into, which is not a constitutionally protected state of play, merely the result of decades of lazy voters. The constitution provides for a republic ... lets act like one.

One problem stated here voting. No fixes stated because the government is broken all three branches. Reason it is broken was stated by tn.  Lazy people. Stupid is a better word it covers lazy and a lot of other words. Can't fix the stupid people. Better to brain storm what will happen when martial law comes and what can be done to prepare for it.

Unfortunately you can't educate someone who does not wish to be educated.  So we will continue to elect officials who look good, smell good and can read a speech (that someone else wrote) from a TelePrompter and who the mas media tells the sheeple to vote for.

I said what I did to get a point accross. Too many can vote that simply have no clue as to why they are voting, nor what that vote means, and further more don't really care. The proof now sits in office! How many of you here are veterans? Now, how many of you veterans voted for Obama? I'm betting not many if any at all. Veterans understand the importance of voting because they have payed for that understanding in ways non veterans can't even imagine and not in any way simply gained by what money can buy. Yes a radical idea but one said to make a point! If a person actually had to EARN the right to vote, it might just mean enough to them that they care a bit more about how they cast that vote. As far as a soldier voting himself a pay raise, you have little faith in those who pay for your freedom. But, lets just say they did? You have a problem with that but not the pollititions you elect spending millions on campaigns, homes, cars, fancy dinners, clothes and vacations but yet can't raise a dime for the homeless nor take the effort to actually do their jobs?  Again, just making a point, but one that says a lot about peoples values.

I definitely think those who have served the community in the military are better equipped to understand the cost of politics, and I have considered what'd be like if you had to serve to vote. Sadly I think in a couple generations recruiting would become a hot potato item, and there would be some group or another trying to contol it so that only the "right" people serve. The evil wolf is the easiest to feed.

I'm a veteran myself.That doesn't give me anymore right to vote than any other American. Many people in my age bracket are veterans. People that serve in the military are just people. Some good , some bad people.Some smart, some not so smart.  Al Gore,GW Bush and John Kerry are veterans, but they also fit that other category.......  "You Know" The ones that spend millions and chop away at our freedoms, and the not so smart bunch. By the way! I plead guilty for voting for Bush, but I'm more informed now as a voter, and didn't waste my time or vote on either of the criminals running last time.
