i agree with ya mac....  i was talking to a cs rep about a tdc-20 barrel that i was told 2 months ago were available.  which recently, i found out that i was mis-informed !!!.  so i talked with a person i know from remington repair shop about that.  and he put me on this young girl that seems to know more about whats going on in there relm.  she emails me about everyother day with updates on the production of the barrel
and with a great personallity, she has seemed to be a worthy connection.

i envolved her in the .223 problem i had last month... and i received a complete new gun before they ever got the one my distributor sent back !!!!  :o

i even asked her about a warranty repair job a friend of mine sent in and she told me that it was to be delivered back that day to the customer !!!   it was too....  :o

so, i guess that all's not bad on the big green side of our handi's.

i sure hate that blue brick and others have had to deal with the bs.... and in the past i too, have had some
difficulty with mis-information.

i think there is more to this problem than the product and/or support....

its more a lack of a pride in there job, or possible not just got that feeling to do your job correctly.
kinda like... plain don't giva-dam !!!!

Mac, I see it clearly....yes the man deserves an appology and more....we all deserve the courteous and efficient customer service we're not getting.  I don't understand where you got the idea I was happy with them.  I'm not and that's why I'll buy used Gardner guns and never send another frame back for a barrel.  There is no excuse for rudeness in Customer Service.  If I were a Supervisor there, I would fire anyone who behaved that way.

it took alot of hours/days to get both of mine to put a hole where it was pointed at within 1/2" @ 50yrds

I think I might have to…..because of this thread an opportunity for unfired Survivor barrel and has come to my attention and I have already agreed to purchase it. I like H&R’s quality and value, but I am going to certainly avoid the accessory barrel program and only purchase new H&R products through Davidson with their lifetime guarantee.

If I were H&R/Rem I would drop the barrel program all together, what a logistical and service nightmare it must be at times. I can appreciate everyone's loyalty here, but unfortunately that wouldn't be enough for most companies to continue to offer the program. I would definitely charge a premium for a "customized" product like this. Many people will pay good money for a variety of gunsmithing services, but can't seem to understand that this is a similiar concept. The real challenge comes from the various companies producing low-cost bolt rifles while the cost of the H&R's has been climbing. I saw a little H&R .22 Hornet at a dealer that would be fun to have, but I'm leaning towards a Savage Edge in 22-250 at real close to the same price point.
BTW--the cost the choke wrench sours the whole deal and makes for bad PR

Your probably better off doing it this way,and I for 1 am at least sorry for your past troubles.

Gendoc..I can appreciate where you are at with them,and admire a friend or a friend coming to your aid with a problem,but that really doesn't mean crap for the average Jo6pak buying one of these rifles. I've dealt with some of their other divisions for Eons..and have quite a few contacts with them and some of the things I am told saddens me beyond words..You are spot on with your last comments..many there don't give a ratsbehind about anything except getting paid.

Bobg..I know how snooty Weatherby can be,my family has done some type of business with them since Roy worked out of his garage.But..as far as I have seen..they never once stiff a customer 10 times the amount it cost them for a $3 part. I can't say as much for some of their authorized repair centers though..some of those guys are just plain nuts..as are many of the other companies repair centers.

PawPaw.. if they ever get like Remington's custom shop the price of the Handi's will equal the Encores. What they need to do is to get the tolerances on the barrel and lug to the frame fit perfected, so you don't have to send the damn thing in to them in the first place,of course you would have to perfect the tolerances on the receiver as well... ::)

Hunt-m-up...The extra barrels are made when they do a run of rifles..and the same hourly employee who fits the rifles also fits the extra barrels..so it really isn't a custom item or taking it to a gun smith to be fitted.This program has always been part of the rifles marketing plan and when under the control of NEF/Marlin never had these types of problems.

The bottom line for me with these rifles is if I can't recommend the companies C/S department or barrel program along with the rifle..then I see no reason to recommend them at all anymore. If a person has to find their own and fit their own barrel AFAIK they might as well buy a damn (shudder) Savage..Yes Spanky...I said it..That is pretty straight forward at least without having to shim or file the damn thing... A vice a wrench and a no-go gauge..then change the bolt head out if need be simple as that..Lord knows they are cheap enough...

Wait a minute.  I've never seen a problem with Savage, not one.  They make great entry level rifles and have done some things in the past decade that have the other companies playing catch-up.

My experience so far is less than stellar, although, there was no issue of snotty attitudes or negativity.  They just flat out told me that they couldn't fix my .45 Colt because it was no longer being produced.  Struck me as odd, if a gun is still under warranty that they get to ignore the warranty just because they stop making the model.   :o  I wonder what would happen if auto companies etc. did that?

I am of the thought that when I send my H&R in for the barrel program, I order multple barrels at one time. I ordered 22h, 30-06, 45-70, 12G choke tube and 12G rifled slud at the same time, saves on shipping.
99% of all Lawyers give the other 1% a bad name. What I find hilarious about this is they are such an arrogant bunch, that they all think they are in the 1%.

I think he hit it on the head.  Too many extra fees for what you get now a days.  Were we spoiled before, with good prices, yah, same with gas.  Doesn't mean we like it, or sass a guy for speakin his mind.  I'm with Mac on this, been some snotty responses on this one.  I've had good contact with C/S and some not so good.  I've had all good with members here, and will do the same for ones I deal with.  This gentleman is getting my 45/410 barrel at a fair price, I don't think I will get around to playing with it and have lost intrest in it.  Welcome to a new member.  DP

I currently own a Pardner shotgun and I wanted to take advantage of the H&R’s barrel accessory program and equip my Pardner shotgun with a 45LC/410 Survivor barrel. When I called H&R today, I received two different explanations on how the rifle functioned. I need some basic information: length of the rifling, the quality of the steel, length of the chamber, accuracy with 45 Colt cartridges, what kind of choke was supplied, and did the barrel come with the choke and wrench (which is should). All I received was rude and conflicting answers. One representative stated the Survivor barrel was fully rifled with a modified choke and the other representative said it was a smooth bore barrel with a rifled choke. Even after speaking with an extremely rude Manger, I still received different and conflicting answers. I did find out one thing…the Survivor barrel at $96 did not come with a choke wrench. Nope that’s another $27 which is not listed on their order form or website. I was hoping when H&R and Marlin were sold that they would continue to have good customer service, but I was wrong.

Survivor barrel 45LC/410 $96

Barrel fitting $25
Shipping barrel and receiver back to me $19
Choke wrench $27

$177 for full usage of one barrel

Price for losing a customer for life…… Priceless.

Blue Brick went out on a limb to post his displeasure on this forum. If he has been lurking here he had an idea that many of us are, perhaps, unaccountably attached to these silly things. Any brand has the same story, guns or cars or toasters. His points are valid, and as with anyone else, I can respect his decision to vote with his bucks elsewhere. I dont much depend on any factory, anymore, to give me satisfaction. Most problems have a solution, many to be found here, and my guess he could have, or could still join us. If he thought he would change any minds here.....not likely. That an unhappy customer will tell 20, or 40, or whatever people is well known. He has certainly done that, and probably will continue to do so. THAT is what the company should be thinking about.

 Once upon a time  as most folks that know me,I would come down hard on folks who put these rifles or the company down or call them a P.O.S. with out ever asking or questioning their reasoning. I no longer do this,not because I no longer own any of these little rifles,but because I have learned one should never to get so attached to any "thing" that I can't see it's or it's manufactures flaws.

I still like these little rifles,and will always have a lot of good memories about them,and also the people I became friends with because of them. What I won't do is blindly defend them when folks have a legitimate complaint about them or the company responsible for their manufacture. Many folks here are where I was at for many years about them doing just that,and these are the folks that really need to open their eyes and put their thinking caps on and actual put themselves in the other peoples place before saying something stupid to these folks,wither they be a new forum member or an established one. Just because some here haven't experienced the same as the people who are complaining or venting about their issues doesn't mean they aren't real and justified at times.

I feel unless Remington changes the way the H&R's are made and how they handle their C/S issues and Q/C issues and also what is being produced and at what cost, I have my doubts that their popularity will remain as high or even if the line will continue outside of this forum in the real world..I hope for alls sake my doubts are unfounded..and the line continues as it has in the past being a good value and a good inexpensive rifle but the signs are there telling me otherwise and easy enough to see if you look for them.

While I may not be posting as much on this forum for a while since I am not buying or shooting these rifles at the moment,I still will be around watching and reading..helping when I can..
