.243 100 grain bullets
« on: July 16, 2010, 04:14:52 PM »
Any good reloading results for 100 grain bullets. i have a Handi in 243 24 inch barrel 1 in 10 twist. 87 hor interlocks are great. 100 grain shoot more like a pie plate.( horn BTSP and rem CL). Factory 100 grain shoot great and noticed there case is almost full compared to my max load of h4350 that I am using. I quess I can stick with what works being the 87 grain for pennsy deer but would perfer the 100 grain.

The sierra 100gr gameking SBT was my favorite deer bullet but if your gun won't shoot the heaiver bullets well the 85gr sierra HPBT gameking is an excellent deer bullet.

My Ruger Tang Safety M77 shoots 100 grain Nosler Partitions well with 41.5 grains of IMR 4350.
Hunting and fishing are not matters of life or death. They are much more important than that.

well went to the range tday and my rifle liked 100 grain rem cl over 40 gr of h4350 col 2.635. They shot 4 shots at 3/4 inch. Also did well with the 95 nosler ballis tips over 42 gr col 2.70 at 1 inch group. They were 100 yard groups. Have to see how they perform at 200. A lit scared of the nos as reports say they are a lit fragile on deer. I think the rems will be the choice

The 95 gr. Ballistic Tip is my favorite deer bullet for my 6MM Remington. I get exits most of the time so exactly what is meant by "fragile".

Hornady 100grn BTSP work great for me.

Over 37grns IMR4064 with CCI 200s set just into the lands they will shoot 1" all day at 225 yards.

If you like big exit wounds and quick expansion try some speer grand-slams with lots of h-4831.  They are not streamline like a missle but they are a great bullet for out to all farther you should be shooting.  Accurate in both my 243's.   Dave

I've used the 4350 powders, with decent results. I tried some H4831 and got hooked! It's(H4831) all I used now for my 100gr bullets. Had pretty decent results with H414 also, but nothing has compared to the H4831.

Using 43.5gr RL22 under 95gr NosBT...never a problem with them being too fragile.

My 243 Win bolt gun will shoot 100gr. Speer BTSPs superbly loaded over either H-1000 or Ramshot Magnum.  A small amount of work with Sierra 100gr. BTSPs show promise for at least similar results.

I tried a lot of different bullets in my .243 Win., but i never considered it a decent deer rifle, until i switched to NP's.  NP's became even MORE important when i switched to my 240 Wby..

It's less important if you only take rib shots, but that's not me.

My Ruger Tang Safety M77 shoots 100 grain Nosler Partitions well with 41.5 grains of IMR 4350.

That's my load too.  I've used it for over 25 years.  When I started using it, the 100 gr partition was a semi-pointed bullet.  I wish they would still offer it in that version.  Always worked really well for me.  I use the 95 gr. over 42 gr. of IMR-4350 now.  I'm a bit more confident that it will stabilize properly with the 1-10 twist my guns have.

I always liked the .25 cal 117gr. seim pointed partition as well, but it too is gone like the dodoo bird.

WEll, I know others will not agree, but you can take it for what it is worth from this Ol'Coot, there is nothing like the Nosler Partition, or possibly some of the other current bullets of equal integraty, to make ANY rifle show it's true worth.

This is doubly true with the smaller calibers which provide little, if any, margin for error.

Given enough years in the woods, an "error" will happen to you or someone your with and this is when premimum bullets will very possibly save the day.

Keep em coming!
