2 piece base or 1?
« on: July 17, 2010, 03:57:55 PM »
I recently bought a Winchester M70 in .308. I like the idea of a 1 piece base for strength/ring alignment. But will the 1 piece base interfere with loading single rounds or reaching the chamber? I am taking this rifle to a Rifle course in October and the instructor will be having load singe rounds quickly without taking your cheek off the stock. Or, would 2 piece bases really be the way to go?

Thank you!!

I really do not think a one piece base is any stronger then a well designed two piece base.  If there is any alignment issues with the rifles receiver / mounting holes, a one piece will not cure it.  The one piece is heavier, and more likely to shear off mounting screws under recoil.  With a two piece base, you do have more finger room when loading or removing a casing.
