bronze forend spacer
« on: July 20, 2010, 03:26:58 AM »
I took one of the bronze forend spacers and colored it with an acid patina in 'mahogany'. I think it came out pretty nicely.

Now that looks VERY nice.  Having tried numerous methods of blackening brass (on muzzle loaders), your acid patina really sparks interest.  Just what type acid is this?  Is it a commercially available product or a home-grown recipe? Has to be easier than my ammonia fume hood process that that takes weeks and smells up the man cave.
Thanks

Its a water based product and its mainly for copper. I did a copper roof and then treated it and its stayed a nice dark red for 5 years now.  To do this bronze i just cleaned it and let it soak for about 30 to 60 min. I never did time it exact. I have a gallon of the stuff, it took maybe a pint to do the whole roof and Ive got plenty left over. Maybe we could think of a good way to ship it and ill give you guys some and you just pay for the shipping and box/ bottle. It also said if its applied hot it will bring up various colors, so i planned the hot quench for the next one. Ill get the name of the company tonite.

Your offer is generous, but you may want to check with the PO, etc. about shipping a 'hazardous chemical'. I bet they want a haz-mat fee for it, which would make it prohibative.

Ive got 6 old pharmacutical small glass bottles that hold shy of 1/4cup. Would that be enough to swab on for several brass/bronze/copper projects? If so, PM me.

Kevin,

I did a search on E bay for Dendrite and got zero results.  Oh well.  Yes I'd love to see brass/bronze trigger guards too!

Cat,

His user information is at the following link, however unless he actually has something listed currently, the big search pane will show nothing.  Hope this helps.  You can always email him and see when he expects to have more available. ;)

You are correct, and I was just minutes late, the spacer sold so I missed him in EBay.

However, I used the email address that oldsoldja supplied and hooked up with him.  Thank you.
