Do any of you know of a 600 yard range here in Pa?
« on: July 20, 2010, 05:25:18 PM »
I live in Scottdale Pa (55 miles south east of Pittsburgh) and the range I use only goes out to 300 yards. I am looking for a range I could use here in Pa that I could shoot out to 600 yards. Do any of you know of such a place? I have no problem paying a fee for the day to use it so that is not even an issue. Well let me know and take care Dale

Dale,

There's not many 600 yd. ranges around here.  Reade range (near Johnstown), Whitehorse (Clarksburg WV), Warrior Mtn. (Cumberland Md.)and Malvern (Ohio) have 600 yd ranges, but they are usually only available for high power matches.  McDonald Sportsmen Club has a 600 yd. range, but I don't know the particulars there.  There was a pay as you go public range out near Imperial PA that had some long distance, but I believe that it has been closed due to some kind of problem there.  Sportsmens Assoc. of Greensburg has a 500 yd. range that I think has target frames for use off the benches.  You'd probably have to be a member or a guest there.

Wow thanks. The Sportsmens Assoc. of Greensburg is only a stones throw from my house and I never new about that range. I found some contact info. and will find out how much it cost to join their club. Even shooting 500 yards is much better than the 300 yard range I use now. Thanks Dale

I just got off the phone with the vice pres. of the Greensburg Sportsmens ass. and had a real good talk with him. They do have a waiting list but for a very small fee I can go out and use the range for the day. I plan on joining this club because it is only about 10 miles or so from my house and they have a 500 yard rifle range. The cost to join is not to bad either. It costs $320.00 the first year and $120.00 a year after that. Sure sounds like fun to me. Take care Dale

What all do they offer at the club besides the 500 yard range? The initiation price sounds a little high to me, as well as the yearly dews :-\

No the only 300 yard range I am familar with is in western Greene County.  It is about an hour drive to get there so I don't go often.

The Sparta Sportsman's Club in Spartansburg PA has a 500 yard range, nice skeet, archery and a fishing pond.  Cost is $10 a year.  As of the last meeting I went to there are only about 80 members so it is usually pretty quiet.
