Best base(s) and rings
« on: November 29, 2003, 10:05:22 PM »
Looking for a base(s) rings for a new model seven SS. Will probably buy bases/rings and scope mail order and get them shipped out to New Zealand.
Looked at Tally, Warne, Millet, Leupold etc, prices are fairly similar any one got any suggestions? Will probably go with a one piece base.

Cheers

Look at the Talley baseless rings that have no separate base. The base screws mount the ring directly to the action. They are high grade aluminum. You will save weight and have a stong mount too. If you want steel bases and rings I like the Warne maxima permanent mount rings. If the one piece base doesn't use all four holes to mount it many consider them not as strong as two piece bases. I don't like them because most make it more difficult to load the rifle.

I had the Conetrol base and rings on a used model 7 and they are a pain to install but they give a very strong and slick look. If I ever get another model 7 it will have this system. Don

Leupold Dual Dovetail are super strong, but then again so are the Warnes that I use.  Whatever you do, just stay away from the "adjustable" scope mounts - like the Leupold "standard" bases and rings.
