The Lyman 311410 is a bullet designed for the .30 Carbine and has what Lyman calls a pointed tip. The only issue I see with using it in the .30-30 is the tip, which might be bad juju if used in a tubular magazine. In a bolt action or single shot, it should be fine.
You're right in thinking that Unique might be a good place to start, and some of us use similar bullets in the .30-30. I use a 115 grain flat tipped bullet loaded to about 1500 fps. However, you won't find much data for these type loads. Most of these loads use a small amount of relatively fast powder and it's easy to double the charge in the case. However, the research is easy to do and following a few safety rules, you'll soon find an appropriate load.
Hodgdon has done some of the work for you. They've put together
a .pdf file that explains reduced loads and Trailboss powder. They've also got some data on
youth loads.
Additionally, the guys over at Leverguns.com have been doing this type work for years. Go over there an click around, you'll find lots of good information. One place to start is Paco Kelly's article on
Small Charges in Standard Cases.
Cast bullets in the .30-30 are great fun. They're also eminently useful for any number of applications, including big game.
