Which 7mm mauser would be considered the best quality wise???

Chilean '93, '95

Spanish '95

Brazil 1908

Czech VZ24

Mexican

Other 7mm mauser?

Which one do you have or like the best?

Since the Check is a 98 action and all the others are either 93 or 95's I would say it is the best.
I had a mexican 93 and a spanish 95 carbine.
Both were good rifles and were acurate.
Liked my Swede 96 more and kept it and sold the others to a friend who wanted a mauser collection.

Sorry I did not see the Brazilian 1908 it too is a 98 and would be a great rifle.
these were sought out as the base for custom rifles.

The VZ. It is the smoothest of all military 98s and the strongest of all the actions mentioned except for the Brazilian which is also a 98 and might be smoother yet. 2 cents.....

The Mex M-10 is a 98 type and pretty nice. The dealer wanted $600 for the last action I saw.

One of my project rifles is a 7x57 to be built on a Swede action. I love them Swedes!

Any contract 98 made by FN. I have a Venezuelan I made into a sporter. The quality was simply outstanding I traded my ex brother in law an sks when they were 90 bucks for it. I would have left it in original configuration had not my ex brother in law sand the stock and remove the markings. I did the sporter justice tho. I made it into a British type sporter with a Model 70 type handle. It weighs about 7 pounds and the factory barrel looks like a corkscrew in typical mauser fashion.

I have a Chilean, a Spanish and a FN model 1949 semi auto.
The chilean was made by Lowe in Berlin and is superb quality.
Spanish was made in spain and is only Nice Quality but extremely accurate.
The 1949 is Sweeeeet!

My chilean 93's were manufactured by DWM in germany and my chilean 95's were manufactured by Lowe in Berlin. I have a few spanish 7mm and m95 7mm carbines but i never fired them yet. Someday i'll take them out of storage and play with them. The FN49 in 7mm cost me a fair price but the stock has a fiddleback/tiger striped and the bore looks like new with thick rifling. First i only seen it in pics and the wood caught my eye. But inperson it looks awesome. Finding an fn49 in 7mm is tough for a decent price. Heck finding any fn49 for a decent price is rare too now. I believe the brazilian 98 in 7mm was also manufactured in germany too.

I never seen an FN bolt action in 7mm. These must be rare. I know there were some shorter barrels on the mausers and they were in most of the calibers. These seem to bring big dollars price wise too. I'll have to drag out my military mausers of the world book and refresh about the shorter barreled bolt action mausers.

I like shooting the mid bore mausers (6,5 swede/7mm mauser) mainly because there easy on my old body.

Yeah, they're very good. I have two Chilean 95's in unissued condition my Dad bought in the 50's and they're the best fit & finished rifles I own. Hard to believe they were made this beautifully, then handed out as common service rifles.

Samco still offers the swede mauser M38 husqvarna....

I was thinking of getting another m96 barreled action to build a youth rifle in 6,5mm swede for my grandson but i'm not sure of the bore condition.

Stupid me i passed on a swede husqvarna M38 at a gun show a few years back for $150. Since i had one already i passed on it not thinking about trading it in the future.

At first the swede mausers were only $20 when the ammo wasn't available and they didn't sell. They couldn't give them away. Then the ammo was available and everything changed. Now i wonder how high the prices will go on the swede mausers?? There hitting $500 now on some of them.

Yep, the German made 95 mauser made for Chile certainly is a contender for being top quality 7mm, but then so is the 1908 Brazilian mauser. Not as commonly found as these two, is the model 1936 Mexican produced in Mexico, which is a quality made rifle with a small ring size action built with 98 mauser features. I have one and it rates consideration.

spanish '93, chilean '95 and czech '98...like 'em all.

sog has the czech for $169. my "sporterized" '93 was traded for a pellet gun and my chilean was $39...but that was 30 years ago; today, sportsman's guide has chilean '95s for $379...

as a shooter, the czech probably wins because of its ability to handle gas escaping in case of a blown cartridge, but all of them are good shooters if the bore is decent. the cartridge is first-rate.

The carbines are offered at sportsmans guide in there flyer. I don't remember if there in 7mm, 308 or both calibers.

I wonder why only south america went with the 7mm mausers and the germans never used them. I guess the czech's were the only european country to use the 7mm besides spain. I just find it very odd the germans made the caliber but never used it.

If we look at a ballstics calculator and punch in the 7mm mauser numbers using a 125yd zero the bullets path varies about 1/2" to 5/8" from the muzzle to the 125yd zero. Its one of the flatest shooting rounds there is. Thats why the US copied it to design the 30-06 springfield.

I like the 1908 Brazilan I have several of them made by DWM in either Berlin or Obendorf. One of the slickest actions I have ever had.

Years ago when i got into collecting there were hardley any 7mm mausers to be found. For some reason the 7mm round got my interest. Then i founde my very first M95 chilean long barrel hanging in a mom and pop sports shop with an inch of dust on it. Its been there that long. I passed by this shop for 17 years to and from work and finally stopped in. Not knowing what it was i posted here right away and S.S. answered me and i grabbed it. Then the 7mm bug really bit me. There like swede mausers i just can't pass them up. Wether its a Lowe or DWM either one is a great 7mm mauser. Even today at guns shows i still don't see that many 7mm mausers.

Right now at www.allansarmory.com he has a few listed (M95's)

Teddy Roosevelt's Rough Riders were the first US troops to meet the 7mm Mauser in the hands of the German military advising and assisting indigenous military on San Juan Hill; or at least I think that is when they first met up. The Germans had also armed the Boers with the 7mm Mauser and both we and the Brits found out how well it worked. I think the 303 Brit was still using heavy slugs and had not yet seen the 174 gn ball and faster burning smokeless powders and was flat outshot by the 7mm. The Rough Riders were using 30-40 Krags that were being flat outshot by the 7mm.

The US copied the 7mm design but stretched it out to 63mm over it's original 57mm length and opened it up to 7.62mm over the original 7mm; the case head size is identical to both the 7mm, the 06, and the 8x57. The US had to pay patent infringement fines to Paul Mauser when they copied his box magazine design and a couple of other things to the M1903 and family. I can't recall if the US had to pay any infringement fines on the case design of the 06 in relation to the 7mm but as 1911 sez, it is one flat shootin' round.

The patent infringement payments did not last too long. They went out the window in 1918 at wars end. To the victor go the spoils.

They improved the Mauser design but the .30-06 stands alone.
