Russian Mosin (availibility)
« on: July 23, 2010, 10:58:31 AM »
It seems the russian mosins are being offered now in 91/30 laminated stock,  91/30 hex stock and in 91/30 round reveivers right now.  All of a sudden we have them all again to select from with the 91/30's.  Don't miss out on these fun shooters for around $100.  Also be on the look out for the russian mosin M38 and the M91/59 these seem to pop up inbetween in the supply of the other mosins.  I'm surprised we don't see anymore M44's which makes me wonder what the production numbers were on the m44's.

For you late commers getting into C&R collecting its still your chance to get into the mosins while there still cheap.  I still see them cheap on the net sites while there higher priced on gunbroker and auction arms.  Seeing this tells me when they dryup at the dealers/wholesalers which they will someday soon the price on these will be much higher too.  Don't hesitate on there awesome pieces of russian history.

I picked one up at a gun show a couple of years ago for $99. I have yet to shoot it but looks nice on my den wall with some others.

Classic Arms has a huge supply and good prices. Their quality is usually quite good.
Everyone has to have at least one of these.

For the low cost and the availability i'd suggest getting one of each of the 91/30's, (1) M91/59, (1)M38 and (1)M44 if you can.  The mosins are like the yugo sks in numbers but someday they will dryup for sure...

Don't buy Mosins!!! That makes it harder for me to fill holes in my collection! LOL!!! With over 17 million 91/30's produced, there will always be some out there for sale. The other models are lesser in numbers and are becoming a bit more hard to find these days. With the Ukrain being the largest exporter I wouldn't look for anymore imports for awhile. At least not until prices go up another 50 or 100 bucks on the retail market. Seems the profit margin is not as large as importers would like to see.

I been pondering about ordering 4 or 5 this month.  ;D  Well maybe just 3 of the different 91/30's and i may look for a M38 and a 91/59 if there offered too.  I'm not sure when they dryup which one will be the most sought after???

91/30 hex?

91/30 laminated stock?

91/59 ?

M38 ?

I think these four would be the most sought after.

Don't forget the Finn M39, best shooter of all my 10 Mosins.

Speaking of carbines. I have a M-44 that is so accurate that it could have been made into a short sniper rifle. It shoots as good as my 39 Finn and it is just plain dog nuts accurate.

Got a M-44 ('47) that is like that as well. Shoots every bit as good as my "B" barrel M-39. Scary accurate! For the standard production rifles the Tula's are probably more desireable as the production numbers were a bit less than the other arsenals. Most of the carbines will be found at shows and shops now. I still have to locate a Tula M-38 as well as a couple other years of manufacture to complete "the set" of M-38's. I like the 91/59's as well but stopped at three, one Izzy, one Tula, and one "scrubbed". I like all my mosins but really appreciate the handling of the carbines. Actually I am thinking of selling most of the rest of my sporting arms so I can buy more mosins!! My largest blacktail so far was killed with a Mosin, no real need to stop hunting with them.

Lets not forget the most famous sniper in WW2 with probably the most kills even to today(500 kills) was a finnish sniper and he used a finnish m27 with no scope i believe.  He also had a swedish m96 mauser scoped but he perferd the finnish m27.(white death)

When i first got into shooting the larger bores(bigger than my 22) I found some guns inaccurate, well most modern guns. I thought all my guns needed scopes and my eyes were bad.  It wasn't till Mikey and S.S. here told me to get a swede mauser for accuracy and they were right.  It wasn't me being inaccurate its some of the modern rifles.  I was trained about my breathing a long time ago and i do it automatically now.  This stops the gun from wandering when trying to aim it.  Then its sighting the gun in too after that its practice, practice and more practice with it.  I'm sure i'm not alone when i say i took too many guns to the range at the sametime too.  I don't spend enough time with each gun.  I found out when i relaxed my accuracy got even better than rushing to shoot/fire each gun.  Its the samething with pistols/revolvers too.  There are no short cuts to being accurate.

I have a 99/59 like that. Unfortunately my M44 is not.

My 81/59 is my best shooter of all my Mosin carbines.

Some of these are unissued/rearsenalled and still in there orginal boxes and need to be benchrested and sighted in.  I have a brand new russian mosin m44 1944 NIB that has to be sighted in.  It groups awesome but on the next target over so the front sight needs to be moved a tad.  You guys are right these under $100 rifle can be scary accurate if we do our part.  Some of these are more accurate than there mauser cousins thats scary. Then the fiinn's took the captured russian mosins to the next level by shimming the stocks and changing the stocks and even reworking the receivers into new finnish mosins too.  The finn gunsmiths didn't release them until they shot 1" moa's.  I think the finn's were very fussy about accuracy and right up there with the swede's and swiss with there quality too.
