I need to buy another t.v LCD or Plasma?

I did some research wonder if this is a good t.v.
I have a few LCD but I talk with a lot of people who own the newer style flat screen plasma and they seem to like them.

Not if you want it to last more than a few years. LG plasmas have a bad problem with heat and thus the Z bias boards and buffer boards don't often  last more than a couple years. I have replaced many of them and charge between 300 - 450 bucks to do it. Z bias board runs 265 my cost and the buffers are close to 100 bucks each.

Plasma is a great technology but LED is much better. If I was going to get a new TV it would be an LED, much less heat than Plasma and a little less than LCD. The cost of the LED is coming down and you can get a 50" for around 1700 @ sams the price is still up there but getting cheaper.

Personally I like DLP over LCD and Plasma they just take up a little more space but not that much and the picture is awesome. I have a Samsung 50" and a JVC 61" DLP for sale if you want to save a little money.

I have been mulling this over for several months, and have talked to a bunch of electronic experts during that time.  Almost to a person they told me to avoid the plasma units.  The plasma tv's tend to develop "hot spots" in the screen and have "shadow" images after a while.  What was recommended to me was the LED/LCD tv.  These are ultra thin, run much cooler than regular LCDs, and last longer than either plasma or regular LCD tvs.
Therefore, I went out and bought a Samsung 40 LED/LCD yesterday.  It has wireless internet capability, which allows us to watch Netflix movies from our instant play account.  There are also USB and computer connections for watching slide shows, saved movies, etc.  The image is crisp and sharp, and, basically, I highly recommend it.
Thanks for the stump

I just went thru the buying process on a new TV, after all was read, went with a Samsung 50" plasma, had it for a month now, love it, would highly recommend it.....so far any way, time will always tell tho. Read the reviews on what ever you decide on.  Be sure to read up on plazma burn in issues, and learn about using the scrolling function to remove them. Best Buy has a handy buying guide to help decide on the type TV. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/TV-Video/Televisions/abcat0101000.c?id=abcat0101000

Whatever you do, make sure your TV, whatever make/kind, fits the environment. In our living room a 50" TV of any kind would be WAY overkill. Eyeballs would be going far to far side to side. We chose a 32" instead.

TV tech changes so fast that I would not want one that lasted more than 5 years. Blue Ray will be replaced soon. Then you will need a TV to match what replaces it.

That would be true for an old style 4:3 screen or viewing in 4:3, but a modern 16:9 wide screen can be viewed much closer, a 32" wide screen viewing distance is only 4'-6.6', 50" is about 10'.  Ever been to a modern theater?

Viewing distance and picture quality: two parts of the screen size equation

Sitting the right distance from your TV is also an important part of optimizing the viewing experience. Because HDTVs offer so much more picture detail than old analog sets, you can sit quite a bit closer to them than you could with your old tube. In fact, sitting too far away may mean you miss some of the high-def detail you paid for. But you also want to avoid sitting too close to your TV. A good indication that you're sitting too close to a screen is if you find yourself distracted by the screen's "structure" — those rows and columns of pixels that look like tiny dots.

Screen    Viewing distance range
26"    3.25-5.5 feet
32"    4.0-6.66 feet
37"    4.63-7.71 feet
40"    5.0-8.33 feet
46"    5.75-9.5 feet
52"    6.5-10.8 feet
58"    7.25-12 feet
65"    8.13-13.5 feet
70"    8.75-14.75 feet

If I was 6' away from a modern TV my eyeballs would be going back and forth.

Yes, I have been to modern theaters, many times. My eyeballs go back and forth! I don't care for it. Not to mention, they are FAR too loud.

I agree about the theater sound being a bit loud usually, no problems viewing tho, we always sit mid theater. We just upgraded from a 34" wide screen Sony that we bought about 6-7yrs ago, the wife and I love the new 50" plazma, we sit 9' to 11' from the TV, works great.  ;)

One note on new TVs for anyone interested, if you're a Netflix customer, they include instant movie service in their standard monthly fee if you have the right equipment, in our case, the Samsung TV, a Sony Blu-Ray and a broadband internet connection.
