Proving once again that is safer to own a gun than it is to go to a doctor.

More than 70,000 children and teens go to the emergency room each year for injuries and complications from medical devices, and contact lenses are the leading culprit, the first detailed national estimate suggests.

It is safer to own a gun than to smoke a cigarette.

Virtually everything is safer than smoking.

But what a ridiculous study.  The inclusion of contacts as, "medical equipment" seems like an attempt to generate numbers for an otherwise unremarkable idea and correspondingly useless study.

Quote
The most serious problems involved implanted devices such as brain shunts for kids with hydrocephalus (water on the brain); chest catheters for cancer patients receiving chemotherapy at home; and insulin pumps for diabetics. Infections and overdoses are among problems associated with these devices. Only 6 percent of patients overall had to be hospitalized.
You're kidding right?!?  The most serious problems came from serious medical devices in kids that are either very sick (hydrocephalus) or dying (chemo).  Wow, who would have guessed that serious medical issues can make you, you know, go to the hospital.

I sincerly hope this "study" was funded with a private donation.

Isn't that what statistics is all about... fiddling with raw data in order to support whatever position pays the most money?
