I just replaced front shocks on the Jeep 10 year old truck and we all know the bolts are a nightmare on the stud and nut.I soaked it a day before and with a open end and a pair of Vise gripe to hold the stud the bolt broke easy and removed it with my fingers:This Stuff Really Works

I came to read about rifle and pistol bore cleaning but found Jeep shock nuts and siezed engines instead.

Did I miss a Memo?

How does it clean the bore of powder and lead/copper?

Land-owner its Kroil oil , I have posted on it several times in the past . Put it on a patch wrapped around a brass brush. and run it thru. the bore . If real fouled the soak the bore and let soak. Also it cleans crud out of nooks and crannies with a tooth brush or such. It can be had in a can with a spout or under pressure to spray in tight places. Most any hardware store has it . I always clean it off the gun before i use it as it might kill the primers or powder as it creeps into places  ;)
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

Do not store it in plastic containers, it will creep out of the container.

I cut it 50% with Hoppes, makes a great bore cleaner.

I always put a Kroil soaked patch thru the barrel after cleaning, or to store. I agree with the above, it is premo penetrating oil.

SHOOTALL - I have got a bad case of CRS and don't remember...but I have a clue for checking the archive now.  Keeping it off of cases and away from primers is GREAT advice...thanks!  If it is a "thin" as I suspect, would it run through a spritzer bottle OK?  And it can be obtained in GALLON containers?

Lefty - If I get one more thing out-of-the-can and creeping around on my floors at night, I might shoot off my own toe!  I like that you can cut it with Hoppes.  Does Kroil have a base smell like Hoppes #9?

I am going to need to get some of those copper scrubby brushes.

The smell is like a pinesol or so . Its got petroleum distillates in it . and can irritate skin and eyes .  The smell would mix well with hopps #9 i would think.
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

I've used Kroil on all kinds of stuff. I've read that Kroil penetrates so well thart it will seep under bore leading allowing the lead to be removed with a tight parch. Seems to work that way for me, too. I have a "soak" that I use to clean my guns; about 1 pint mineral spirits, 1/2 cup  Marvels Mystery Oil and about a 1/2 cup of Kroil (I started out equal parts but that doesn't seem necessary). I field strip my guns and soak overnight, then wipe down and run a few parches through the bore. A couple drops of oil here and there (not much needed as the residual oil, M.M.O., lubes most internal parts) and I'm ready to go..

I shot my Handi/44 and my Cimarron 45 SAA Sunday at the range quite a bit.
The 45 had the usual amount of minor leading in the forcing cone & leade area of the bore. The Handi just the usual powder residue & such. The handi I just run the bore snake a couple of passes thru the bore & chamber.
The 45 SAA I used my chore-boy foil on the bronze brush to cut the minor leading out. Then with the Kroil/Hoppes, a patch on a 45 cleaning jag, half-a-dozen strokes. barrel was clean. Used the same patch for the cylinder chamber. Then the final touch, a patch with 100% kroil and let it soak for a couple of Hours. Followed with a clean patch. SAA is ready for the next shooting session.
If I do not shoot for awhile I will run a patch of G96 in the bore after cleaning.

Works great on barrel cleaning, lead removal, copper removal, and another related use is using as a release agent on bullet moulds. I know it sounds contrary to anything you have been taught about moulds, but it does work ! You can read more about it here http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?t=55260 , its also about the best penetrating oil I have tried.

It has taken me thirteen years of shooting my hornet off and on without cleaning to get the groups to start to tighten up. I don't think I want a real good bore cleaner right now. Thanks anyway.  ;D   eddiegjr
