Wal I've not shaved the beard off since early to mid 70s time frame. Back then I was known as Redbeard. Age kinda made that name seem wrong so with beard and hair as white as snow the name changed to Graybeard long ago. Beats me who first called me that but it has stuck and was what we named the site when we set it up back in '97.

My handle come from my name, Greg Hart. The number 1 doesn't really mean anything, I just added it in case there was another GH on the board. Nuthin' tricky 'bout it. I always like to sign with a smiley face, simply because there's enough unpleasantness in the world. A friendly smile does everybody good, I believe.

Briarpatch because I liked the stories of br'er rabbit. especially the one where he tricked br"er fox. Most dont know the stories originated in Cherokee myth. Long before Joel Chandler Harris wrote his series of stories of the Southern United States.

I'm a Lab Tech in a hospital, and got my degree and license in 2003. I work overnight and stay holed up in my lab until I need something then go get it and head back to my hole. So LabRat2k3 just fits. Avyctes, I grew up outside of Athens, then lived in Princeton for awhile, and now i've moved just down the road to Hinton(the fishing is better). Except for a few years on the move with Uncle Sam, and the last couple years down here, I've lived in Mercer county my whole life.

the nick name came from the cook on the john w .weeks. dds.
so slim is was when i had mess cook duty.it was good as any ,although i wouldn t have been called slim in my best yrs. but dad was 6ft 4 inch with long flat mucles.. mine tended to be more defined but i guess that was because i wasn t as tall.been called tony ,mack,an others.. one black fella even called me skinney..
he didn t appreciate that i didn t seem to cow to him like some did..the steel mill went dn an left the furnace
crew standing an waiting.. he decided that was time for him to teach me a lesson.he quickly changed his tacticks when throwing hands didn t work for him.. so we stayed on the ground for 45 or more minutes..
he tapped me on the chest an i let him up..he was awful determined but i was just like a piecs of wire,at the time..he also was hard to hurt as his shoulder muscle ran clean to his ears it seemed..
so i guess i tried to bust his skull an luckyly he was thick skulled..he did take some ribbing from his wife as
a black mans skin turns white for a short period after something removes the top layer of skin..

what he tried turned out to be an good thing as the boys that were sizing me up at the mill ,opted to pass on this young naive white boy,who didn t have enough sense to be scared ofum..
didn t always win but that night my star was shining..good memories.. nobody really got hurt much.
thats the way i wish they all ended..slim

My username/handle/nickname, started out in the early '90's. One of the dealers at the gun shows, had mentioned that his step daughters dog had pups. Half rotweiller, half german sheperd. Having had a golden retriever put down a couple years earlier, and having a dogs when I was growing up, I went and took a look. One of them followed me home, a female. Since I lived alone, when I left on the weekends for the gun shows, I took her over to my brothers house, and picked her up Sunday night or Monday morning. Trying to figure out a name for her, my sister-in-law said, with the traveling she does, why not call her Gypsy. And, being Hungarian, and having built a Harley chopper in the early 70's, called Gypsy Rose, it felt apropreiate.
When I started out, doing the gun shows, I worked for a guy. About '97 or '98, I quit working for him, and went out on my own. I needed to pick a name for my business. And since I moved around every weekend setting up for the gun shows, hence,Gypsy Distributing, and Gypsyman for a handle. Real name is Bill. See ya at the shows!!(Or, right now, Camp Perry) Gypsyman

This is a real good thread William. Quite a few chuckles in here.

Not much to mine. Just ownership of a piece of ground. A little piece of Heaven and He's not making any more that I can afford with dollars on this Earth.

My "signature" is made up and inspired by all of the times that I took on the jobs that others shunned, did my best, failed a few, but succeeded in most. In time, good jobs came my way tempered by the "hardships" of figuring stuff out, which went into the well of experience.

On a similar note, all of the threads we individually start, and to which we reply, are in a small way the threads of our lives we're loosely tying together on GBO. Posting here is not unlike the legacy of experience, opinions, hopes, poignant truths, and remarkable occurrences in each of our lives.

It is a pleasure to be in the company of each of you and to share with you a little slice of life.

Been accused of having blind luck outhouse luck, squirrell luck and other things because of my hunting. I'm not much of a target shooter, never been real good at it. But most critters I,ve shot at fell down. Never missed much just can't shoot targets well. So, it was either this or outhouse luck

When I first started going online I would mostly read about black powder guns. A lot of the guys were into being period correct. So when I finally decided to start posting myself I thought up what I consider to be a period correct 19th century name that reflected an interest in "gunns".

I chose the wolf pup avatar because it's like he is saying,"I may be little, but I can still draw blood".

Bravo 51 was the radio call sign of the tank I crewed in Viet Nam. It's my way of remembering and honoring a lot of folks that didn't make it back. The picture of the tank in my avatar is of another tank from the same company in the same time frame (1967). It is set up fairly close to B-51. We lost B-51 to 2 mines on the same side of the track about an hour apart. The first one rattled us pretty good but no one was hurt. The lead tank in the column came back and was towing us back to the hill we were stationed on when Charlie didn't get the wires together in time and got us again. That was one big bang

!!! My loader spent three weeks in the hospital and the rest of us were knocked around real good. I had a ruptured ear drum from the concussion. I had over 400 slides and prints but we were flooded out in 1991 and lost a lot of stuff. I download this picture from the website that one of the Marines in Bravo Co. set up a few years ago. My signature, I think, speaks for itself.

I grew up in a duck blind with probably the most state (and one world) calling championships of any blind not in Arkansas. Thats all I lived for, calling ducks and killing ducks. Marshes, lakes, streams, big rivers, fields, huge boats with icebreakers... we did it all... 15 years ago I discovered deer and 10 years ago I discovered bowhunting and elk, then other big game... always chasing the new adventure and looking for a bigger rush... I don't duck hunt like I used too, maybe 10-15 days a year... but it's fun to return to my roots...

Mine came from my AOL email account.
I did not want to be Mcduck832, since I was just back from hunting woodducks in NC I took McWoodduck.
The McDuck was a handle Mr. Ring gave my father. "James Rabbit McDuck" And I was McDuck's kid, later the McDuck stuck to me.
Here is a picture of Me and Mr Ring "Burly Bob" when I went hunting for the first time in NJ. Here he is handing me my first shotgun. Still have it and use it.

I had loaded up thousands and thousands of rounds that were perfectly fine (5-grand plus) and just ONE of them misfired (and I was dumb enough to take it to work and have a machinist beat it out for me) and I got pegged as a 'tard, idiot, gomer, forest and !SQUIB! for a couple months...
