I forgot the Hungarian FEG is a clone of the hi power. Don't know the quality,but I imagine you could find it at a lower price aswell.

 My understanding is that the quality is worse. The FM (Argentinian) HI Powers are supposed to be be better but still not like a real FN/Browning. With FN models going for around 500 new and around 300 surplus its hard to justify anything else (Unless you really want the Browning roll mark)

OK.  Back to looking at a Hi-Power. The Ruger Bisley Hunter had some cosmetic flaws and I returned it to the dealer.  If I get a Hi-Power, it will be the blued model with adjustable sights.  I do not want an "anniversary" model.  No sense messing up a nice gun with a bunch of "junk" on the slide.  I should be OK with the blued model because it will not be carried all that much. Will a quality lined leather holster help prevent bluing wear?  All of my "carry/hunting" handguns  are stainless and live in inexpensive "Uncle Mike" nylon holsters.  The Hi-Power, if I get it, will be my "Sunday best" gun.

I like the Lugers, P38s, and Mauser Brooms.  One of my favorite modern 9MM is the old S&W M39.  This is an old single stack.  These guns were pre-Miami Vice. They came out before holding a gun side ways and firing a box of rounds were the norm.  S&W copied the Walther P38 after the war. The old M39 is an up dated at that time Walther P38.  I like the 9MM as a plinker I shoot lots of nines. I don't think much of the 9MM as a good defensive weapon.  I have used them to finish off some medium sized game animals.  The 9MM with any load was not up to par. Just my thoughts.

I sort of like Lugers too.  I have a PO-8 made in 1911.  Good shape -- all matching numbers and the original holster. I don't even think about shooting it.  Guess I like the "classic" stuff.  However, I never much cared for the 1911. Now about a holster for a Hi-Power...

 There are Hi Powers that are 70 years old out there that were carried constantly. The bluing is worn,but its not like it wore right off in a few years. The fact that there is bluing left at all on those tells you its durable. I was looking at Hi Powers a few weeks ago. There is a model with some sort of paint on it and then for a few dollars more the blued model. I like the blued one myself,it looks so much better

I always admired the Canadian Englis {P35 Browing} war contract Mdl.  These guns were painted with a 500 meter ladder rear sight.  They were often fitted with a shoulder stock holster.

Buy "live", I meant carried.  Not "stored".  However, what is the difference between a nylon holster and a soft case.  Most of my guns are kept on a shelf in soft cases with the zippers partially open and are oiled frequently.  Unfortunately I only have about a dozen guns to look after so the frequent oiling is not a problem.  If I buy the Hi-Power, I might wipe it down daily.

I was always told that for leather holsters and never told it was NOT the case for nylon but the reasoning for leather was that it promotes rust. I bet a nylon holster will collect sweat and those salts would not be good for the gun.
