The Colony (TV 2010) Show
« on: July 28, 2010, 04:45:11 AM »
Just learned of this program on the Discovery Channel and started to watch it.  Have many problems with it....what have you noticed, observed or thought about that seems kind of "HUH"?

I find the show really interesting. The major problem that I have with the show is that it is a show and isn't reality. Meaning that they know that someone isn't going to kill them for what they have. I think that this is major difference between what would really happen and the show. I did find that they are making a few things that are interesting and good to know. Like the bio fuel from the pigs and the windmill. I'm really suprised that they don't take security more seriously then what they do. I mean it seems like they are getting robbed all the time. I also wonder why they don't worry more about running out of food. I mean they don't have much left yet they are worried about a windmill. Over all I think that it's a cool show and I might learn a thing or two, and hey it's better then man vs wild.

The windmill thing got me thinking a bit and have to ask why. Why, did they take the gears off the bicycle wheel. I mean, they have the gearing they needed already on an axle with bearings that is light weight. I think I would have used the whole wheel as a base for the windmill. Take the rubber tire off and put the vanes right on the rim.   No need to build an elaborate structure, the bike frame should provide an adequate foundation.

What do I think about the show? I thing that if I was cast on it I would wind up in prison. they through these people in this place and tell them to act like its real, But when a group of bad guys come in and through them around like rag dolls, spray pepper spray on them and drop a elbow on the 70/yo guys head they dont even act like they are trying to hurt them back. I would laterally take those guys heads off there shoulder  if they came in "my camp" attacking "my people" stealing "my stuff" I think they cast a bunch of city slicker pu**ys.

I don't waste my time watching such...

You want reality??? Read "Savage Kingdom"...It's a reality book about Jamestown, VA...It will bring you back in touch with what humans do when things get really tough...

Okay, here is my two-cents:

First of all, totally unrealistic that you would get all of these people with all of this intricate and varied knowledge in the same place at the same time.  Scientists, paramedics and what not?  Come on, get real?!How about just ten random people off the street and see what happens.

Secondly, this end of the world scenario has to be building up to the ultimate case in point.....and yet, not one person is armed!?  They obviously don't come from Texas.  In the days leading up to the event, I am almost positive that friends and I would be carrying 24/7.....we would not do so to be confrontational, but as a matter of protection and survival.

Perimeter security is non-existant in this 'Colony' (what did they think was going to happen?)  Maybe they could call Nancy Pelosi (since it is in California) and she could tell the "baddies" to 'just stop it!'

I think all these "survival" shows are really great. If most people are getting their SHTF training form them, they shouldn't last long, and I'll have less competition for resources.

I've seen pieces of it but get bored with it quickly. Yeah they have a few nice ideas on things but as some of the posts above stated my and my group's stuff would stay ours as everyone in my group would be armed to the teeth. I wouldn't pick on anyone else but no one would just take my things.

Becka is THE ONLY 'saving grace' for that farce of a 'reality survival' show.

I think the USMC sniper showed up too late to 'save the show'.
