Chronicles of a norinco 22

I thought i'd start a post that will be an ongoing thing since i use the little norinco so much, especially spotlighting. i will add to this thread as game is taken.

first kill a while back was this fox at around 80 yards under the spotlight:



the following weekend i shot 3 cats with her, but the camera bateries were dead... :grrrr:
not long before the school holidays i was out after rabbits at a dam near the homestead. with my trusty wolfeyes 260 sniper, i scouted around for a while, then came upon this sow out for a feed. the ethics brigade can keep their thoughts to themselves IMO - as it was lambing season at the time, the pig had been seen many times by the cocky and his wife, but had eluded them. they were very happy i shot her, especially since she was preggers.
when the lambs are young and i see a pig - i'll shoot it with a bloody slingshot if i have too.....



went down for a weeks camping in migoola area on the holidays - this bastard nicked a UHT milk from us one night. 2 nights later, i heard him sneaking around just after dinner. got the wolfeyes on him and dropped him from around 50 yards.



on the way home, i stopped off near chinchilla to bust some bunnies on an old haunt. not many bunnies about there anymore - plenty of hares though. got 5 hares for the night and a bunny.




very happy with the little 2-7 loopy rimfire scope.

Great haul, not a lot of room for error with the .22, you must be a good shot, power to you if you've got the talent

Gday mate - i like to think i'm a reasonable shot in the bush from various positions, but the real key with the humble 22 is to be as close as possible - especially for larger animals.
i certainly wouldn't recomend a 22 for anything like pigs or goats - even though it will work, but everything has to be just right, since - as you say there's no room for error.
when i go out targeting pigs i will carry my 12G or 308.

BTW - i usually stick to winchester powerpoints for most of my killing work with the 22.

G/Day Brian, good to hear from you. Yep those Norinco's are hard to beat. The Loopy scope looks nicely balanced against the Norinco, better fit than the big variable you had on it initially. I have a 2 - 7 Tasco on my BL22, good magnification range for a modern Rimfire.

I see you learned that lesson we both learned on that hunt near Texas - unload your rifle and that's when a pig wonders into camp - TWICE - only this time it was a Fox. Cheeky bugger that Mingoola Fox pinchin your milk. Pleased you took a variety of game with the Norinco on your break. Sounds like you had a good trip.

Brian, finally getting out bush again, , sold enough Leather craft of late and it's paying for a weekend hunt down at Mingoola on the weekend of the 21st . Taking the BL22 as I might do a little bit of a walk around just on dawn at the cattle yards for a few bunnies and a bit latter when the sun's out and the Goats are feeding along the sunny ridges they'll be greeted by the Rossi .357. Only have 265 gr JSP loaded for for the .44 mag, a bit hard for Goats and the pigs on this place. Planning on bringing home an Esky full of meat. No trouble cooling the carcass - should be well below freezing until mid morning.
