classified documents leaked by a private

Never having been in the military, but having the utmost respect for them, this news story has me wondering. Seems a Pvt. has leaked classified documents to a ''wikileaks''. Some sort of internet website for ?.(not sure what it's for, I guess information of classified data)
Anyway, it would seem to me, that a person of a higher rank, than a Pvt. should be privledged to that info. I always thought that a Pvt. is generally a one timer, 2-4 years enlistment. Wouldn't the military entrust that kind of information only to a much higher rank, or a person that is much likeler to be a much longer commitment to the service?  gypsyman

Even E-1s can have a Top Secret clearance.

In fact you don't need a clearance to see classified info.

That the info should not have been leaked is a given, BUT! The leaked info PROVIDING PROOF that the Pakistani Government is OUR ENEMY and is helping kill our soldiers is not a surprise. I more than a year ago on this forum predicted thru other sources that Pakistan was not a friend, but quite the contrary.
So the LEAK is both bad and GOOD. Now we know that while Hilary was giving Pakistan a half billion dollar check last week, they did so KNOWING that Pakistan is the enemy. I am far more disgusted with our government than the Private. He, in a round about way did the American Citizenry a favor, and did so KNOWINGLY, in an effort to get the truth out about the whole Afghan MESS.

Does not matter what his rank, seeing to the security of that information was his number one priority.  The release of that information can cause deaths, both American and Helpful Foreign Nationals.  The act of releasing this info is Treason, No matter the intent, reason, or purpose.  This guy should be prosucuted under the Uniform Code Of Military Justice and approperate action taken.

My view, stand him up against the wall.  But I doubt that will happen.

I guess it doesn't make much difference if a pvt or a congressman makes the leak.The response by our officals should be the same.The offender should be charged for treason and given a Military trial and if convicted the courts order carried out without political interferance.This whole administration that currently is in power are masters at using smoke and mirrors to accomplish their goals.They focus your attention on the right hand while they accomplish their goals with the left.I am sure that they would love to close down or control this form of communication.Its pretty hard to accomplish your agenda when there are  alot of information is almost immediately flashed around the World.Most of the dictators control their countries by limiting transportation, education, communication and weath.Take a closer look at whats going on around you, and then ask yourself who is gaining from some of these decisions that have been made.

Hell, the entire congress should be held accountable the same way. If the egg sucking dogs get caught, tried and convicted of any crime involveing political corruption they should be publickly flogged and then hung or burned at the stake. Why do we put up with all thier crap? We let them crap all over us and then let them have golden parachutes and special treatment and privlidges none of us can afford.

I've always thought we should have India as a friend.  We tried to ring the Soviet Union with friendly countries to set up survelance and such.  We used Iran under the Shaw, Turkey in Nato, and Pakistan.  India didn't like it and made friends with the Soviets, even though they were a democracy.  India now has adapted capitalism and has a growing middle class and a space program, and English is their official language.  They have 7 major dialects, but because they were ruled by Brittan for over a century, they adapted English.  Anyone who gets an education in India must learn English.  Pakistan and Bengladish were part of the British India, but the Muslims didn't want to be part of an overall government that granted freedom of religion.  India has mostly Hindu's and Buddists, but allow Christian missionaries.  We choose funny allies sometimes.

I certainly DO NOT agree with what pvt. ragbag did, nor do I condone it. BUT! Is he any more of a treasonous puke than our own gooberment??  The deals they have made to sell this nation down the river, the aiding and comfort they readily give to criminal foreigners,( I refuse to call them illegal immigrants), allowing the training of terrorists by our military, schools and universities. If this were to go to civilian courts I would exercise jury nullification. He is no more of a criminal than the 535 members of gooberment.

One of the problems afforded by the difficult qualification of new party candidates by the power of limitations (enforced by lawsuits that don't allow new parties on the ballot) of the two party system. eddiegjr

Don't know about other states, but Alabama does allow almost anyone to run as an independent or within a party.  You just have to pay a qualifying fee.  We sometimes have 5-10 people running for governor in the general election.  Of course the Dem's and Rep's, we also have the Constitution, Libertarian parties, the Communists used to be on the ballot.  I think what makes it hard is in a national election, some states may have a very high qualifying fee, making it harder for independents.
