Beretta AL 391
« on: August 02, 2010, 04:36:39 AM »
Beretta shooters,
I have an AL 391 that is not cycling properly. I have cleaned the action thoroughly but it still is a problem. I am shooting trap with the gun and will use 1 oz loads at 16 yard targets and 1 1/8th out loads at yardage events. I am thinking the remaining part to review is the exhaust valve assembly. The manual is very brief on the topic but it is not an easy part to clean. I scraped the residue out of the inside the best I can but the manual really doesn't explain the best procedure to use for proper cleaning. The gun is rather basic and has performed very well for me. And perhaps there is something else I am forgetting. This problem is forcing me to manually cycle each round out of the receiver by hand and this is really hurting my concentration and scores as well. I am seeking any suggestions I can get

Go to shotgunworld.com check out the Berreta forums.Very detailed stuff. There is also a man that wrote a book on the 391 he sells for 15 bucks at shotgun world.First try to lock open the action of your 391 then shake the gun up and down if you dont hear the piston moving you realy need to disassemble it.I am no good a explaining how to do it with all the technical terms and such.If it is too much of a pain for ya and you get frustrated let me know I'll take it off your hands. ;D In my opinion the Berreta semi autos are as good as it gets.Once you figure out how to clean it the right way you will normaly have no problems with it.Good luck with it bub.

Shooters,

Thanks for the input. I took the gun completely appart including the gas valve assy. I ran all of the parts on a mild wire wheel to take off the carbon and reassembled the components. It was a timely but needed process. The action now functions much better. I will also check out the forums on Shotgun world like you suggested.
