New member Question
« on: August 04, 2010, 12:51:55 PM »
I don't have much info for you guys to go on yet but I have talked with a guy who says he has a Single shot rifle in 50-70 govt.

He says this is not any kind of trap door but it is made like a break open single shot shotgun.   ???
I have searched the web and cannot find anything like it yet, then I came upon this site and thought if anyone was familiar this would be the place.
I don't have any pictures yet, hope to soon.

ANY ideas on what make it could be?

Wouldn't it be nice for you, if it turned out to be a (rare) Maynard ?   ;D

Thanks, This site is huge, can't believe it took me this long to find it.

Yes I'm trying to get a picture but haven't yet.
He claims it has some sort of a lever on top which makes me think trapdoor, but he says it breaks open like a shotgun.   has me baffled.

Priced $160 at a flea market near him.

Sounds like a smith carbine. Had what looked like an extra trigger in front of the usual one that pushed up the latch on the top
of the receiver and opened like a break open shotgun. Think they came in 50 caliber and used a cartridge case of some sort. And was fired by percussion cap. If you decide to get it, please post pics. Frank
