NO Lead
« on: August 04, 2010, 01:25:35 PM »

"Environmentalists Seek National Ban on Lead Ammo: Lead, for centuries the core ingredient of ammunition, is now coming under attack itself. As the American military begins to embrace “green bullets,” environmental groups are pushing state and federal officials to ban the use of lead in hunters’ guns and fishermen’s tackle. Their goal is to protect both the animals that scavenge the carcasses of hunted prey and the people who consume meat from hunting expeditions. On Tuesday, the Center for Biological Diversity and the American Bird Conservancy plan to file a petition with the Environmental Protection Agency seeking a comprehensive nationwide ban on lead-based sporting ammunition and fishing tackle… (The military may find itself on the wrong end of unintended consequences with its shift to tungsten-core bullets – tungsten is suspected, in some quarters, of being a carcinogen.)"

Here we go, another bunch of ignorant raving lunatics.

Advise to all concerned.  Don't eat the lead, and don't drink the Kool Aid.

It has more to do with making ammo expensive than saving the enviroment.
With the Liberals the ends justify the means.
If they can make bullets expensive and drive companies and buyers out of the market it will make it easier to end all gun ownership.
They have a plan.
If they have to drag you to their eutopia one micro meter at a time they will.
These are the same people that think oil is evil and other products can take it's place, that we can stop hunting animals for food as hamberger is right there in the store.  And that Mom and Dad know nothing and are always wrong and the Government has all the answers.
And that the 1st amendment means you have to listen to ONLY their opinion and act on it, not that they have the right to say something stupid.

At one point the lead was plutonium.
Yep.  when Plutonium (the stuff they make the A bomb out of) finally runs out of half life it turns into lead.  So a few hundred million years ago the bullets you shoot were radio active.  think about that.
The depleated (on it's last cycle of 1/2 life) unranium rounds the tanks shoot as the sabot rounds hit they casue radiation problems.  Some of the gulf war sickness was found to be soldiers looking in tanks that were destroyed by other tanks or shot up by the A-10 30mm, soldiers were told not to go near any destroyed tanks.
aking less than the most leathal ammo for our soldiers does not make sense.  But as 357 Sig said with these people in charge almost anything is possible.

NSSF Opposes Lead-Bullet Ban: The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the trade association for the firearms, ammunition, hunting and shooting sports industry, has announced its opposition to a petition filed today with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) seeking to ban the use of traditional ammunition, containing lead-core components, by America's sportsmen and women. The petition, filed by several agenda-driven groups including the Center for Biological Diversity (CBD), erroneously claims that the use of traditional ammunition by hunters is inconsistent with the Toxic Substance Control Act of 1976. The petition goes on to suggest that the use of traditional ammunition poses a danger to wildlife, in particular raptors such as bald eagles, that may feed on entrails or unrecovered game left in the field. "There is simply no scientific evidence that the use of traditional ammunition is having an adverse impact on wildlife populations that would require restricting or banning the use of traditional ammunition beyond current limitations, such as the scientifically based restriction on waterfowl hunting," said NSSF President Steve Sanetti. Helping to demonstrate the validity of Sanetti's statement are recent statistics from the United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) showing from 1981 to 2006 the number of breeding pairs of bald eagles in the United States increased 724 percent. And much like the bald eagle, raptor populations throughout the United States are soaring…

What really frosts me about this lead free mania, is that at least half of the homes in this country ...
even in in Kalipornia ... have lead flashings and roof jacks.

Somehow, squirrels and other critters like to nibble on them [tasty ? ]; and of course, ...
hawks, coyotes, dogs and other carnivores eat those.

I don't want to sound like an extremeest nut, but sooner or later, we are going to have to fight these people.  They believe their own lies to the point that reason will not infleuence them.  As someone else said, the end alway justified the means to those people.  You can't win by playing by the rules, cause they make, and change the rules to suit themselves.  We are going to have to fight them.

Their premise:
Quote
The petitioners have waited until nontoxic alternatives have become available to submit this petition in an effort to clearly indicate that this petition is not an attempt to regulate ammunition or firearms.
is ALL ABOUT the regulation of ammunition.  Liberals need to go back into the sewers from which they came.

What is even MORE INSIDIOUS and IMMEDIATE is
Quote
Automobile wheel balancing weights will be phased out with an EPA proposed rule scheduled for 2011.
emphasis added.

If they can outlaw smoking a cigarette in Central Park in NYC they can certainly outlaw lead as well. They don't dramatically take your rights away all at once. They nibble until you no longer have any. When you allow the government to outlaw something that you don't like, remember that you have things that someone else doesn't like.

In a swift and unexpected decision, the Environmental Protection Agency today rejected a petition from environmental groups to ban the use of lead in bullets and shotgun shells, claiming it doesn't have jurisdiction to weigh on the controversial Second Amendment issue. The decision came just hours after the Drudge Report posted stories from Washington Whispers and the Weekly Standard about how gun groups were fighting the lead bullet ban.
