Finally gotter dun
« on: August 05, 2010, 06:20:42 AM »
The old top was about shot. Neighbor gave it to me before he moved quite a few years ago. Been trying to come up with a different material for a top but nothing seemed to work. Took two pieces of 3/4" treated plywood and screwed it together. It is pretty sturdy.
Wondering if I should just leave the top as is or treat, stain, paint, or cover with something. The old top lasted over ten years. Also made a couple of new target holders. Got tired of stumbling over the wood for a couple years ::)
Now I have to do some reloading so I can try it out ;D

Looks great! I would coat it with some spar varnish. ;)

Thanks, Dinny

I like it. If I shot left and or right, you got it covered. Now a can holder and umbrella ;)

I was thinking someone told me years ago, not to paint or stain treated wood.
May be wrong about that ??? Has anyone put something on treated wood and did it work out OK? Thanks

That's a new one to me. Here's my rational..... decks are made with treated lumber and Thompson's Water Seal is added to them.  ::)  By all means, I'm no expert, but that's just my 2 cents worth.  Maybe you could use the Thompson's instead.

Thanks, Dinny

Dinny, You're probably more rational than I ;D
That does make sense to me. I may let it weather just a little and put something like that on it. The old one lasted pretty long but did get a little green looking and started to warp and separate. It sits out year round. It will keep it looking better as it sits on my patio. Thanks

I'm sure that all depends on the subject...... Just be sure to lightly sand in between layers and add, at least, two layers. 3 or 4 would make it last even longer. :o

Thanks, Dinny
