Creep in 83 trigger

Any of you folks worked over your FA triggers?  Mine has two little stutters before firing.  I haven't measured the pull wt but estimate 3 1/2 pounds which is fine, but the creep is distracting when firing heavy handloads from the bench. 

I wouldn't mind doing a little polishing if I had some good instructions.

Or...

Should I just send it in to Freedom Arms and have their 'smith work it over?

Have your friendliest - no extra charge - dealer use the USPS to return it to FA with a nice polite letter explaining the problem of the creep, and have it returned via USPS to him.

Side question:

Is the oft talked about "factory trigger job" a higher grade trigger or simply a customized lighter and/or specified pull weight?

I sent my 97 in for the factory job, and it came back with the same trigger shoe, just a lighter pull, if that's what you're asking.  Went from 4.9# to 2.9#.  Nice!

In other words the internals are not improved (stoned, polished) for a crisper letoff. Rather the weight is simply adjusted... seems pretty expensive figuring in round trip shipping too. Too bad it cannot be done locally with a spring change, etc.

I may call FA and see what they do / include with a trigger job.  Think I'll also borrow my buddies digital trigger gauge to see what weight my trigger "stutter-breaks" at. 

Seems I recall there are a series of options listed on the outside of the FA box.  Some of them are checked, for instance "exp"...for express sights; "Action"...(not sure what that means) and "MNP"...(not sure what that is either).  I thought there might be an option shown for trigger work.

Pretty sure 'Action' refers to lightening the trigger pull and 'MNP' pronabably stands for Magnaporting...

I can't verify that one way or the other.  I didn't have any noticeable drag/creep/stuttering/stacking or significant takeup before the job, and was mostly concerned about reducing the weight.  I would assume (and we know what that means) that they'd clean up any internal issues while they had the gun.

But yes, the shipping was a major bummer, costing more than the trigger job itself...

Well folks, thanks for the advice.  Im gonna take Ken Oneill's advice and send the gun in to FA for them to look over.

Benny...appreciate the definitions intended with Action and MNP.  I should'a guessed the Magna-port, but not sure I would ever have gotten "trigger job" out of "action".

Which would be great advice if I were an FFL, or if I dealt with one that didn't charge $50 to log a transaction in his books, which is required for shipping (according to him).

Non-FFLs cannot send firearms directly through the USPS.

And yes, it would be nice to "find another dealer", but this is the only one in a 50 mile radius.  I do have one other guy I deal with, but he's a two hour round trip.

The folks at FA will fix you up.  I thought my trigger in my 454 was pretty good and had been using it for years shooting nice little groups.  Last year, I had them install a new barrel and while there, they cleaned up the action.  It is an amazing difference.  It breaks just under 3 pounds and is just perfect.  It shoots even better groups now!!  An amazing gun for sure.  If you have them do an action job, you'll not be disapointed but I would definitely follow Ken's advice and have the gun sent in by a dealer via USPS for about 1/4 the cost by the time you get it back! +1 on the FA trigger job.  The few in my set that have "trigger job" checked on the end label have triggers that are head and shoulders above the rest...

I will be "hand carrying" my Mod. 83 Linebaugh to Freedom Arms tomorrow (about a 6 hr drive).  I talked to John the gunsmith a couple of times and he said he would work on it when I get there and I would have my gun by close of business.  Doesn't get any better than that!

I really am impressed with their customer service and can't wait to see the Freedom Arms Facility.  I'll let folks know how the trigger works out.  Pretty excited, as it is one of my favorite firearms...in the "I'll never get rid of it category".

Meticulous adjustments to the sear angles is the key.  Me? I'm a "homeboy" Ruger trigger butcher and my work is in no way comparable to the
work that comes from that little ol' Gun Factory that's in Freedom, WY.

The entire mechanical operation of the FA is part of the factory action job...  Come to my house and hold one with and one without.  There is a world of difference...
