Just wondering if these Talo Trappers are SB1 frames, and if so what limit that may cause on the 45-70 loads used?

Thanks!

If you look at the serial numbers and compare to the chart in the FAQ, you can tell what year it is.  As long as it's 2000 or later, it should be fine for Ruger level reloads and Buffalo Bore ammo.  This should be sufficient. ;)

Welcome!! The 45-70 Talo is on an SB2 frame just as are all other modern H&R 45-70s, the Talo Trapper 357 and 44 mags are on SB1. You can load the 45-70 as hot as your body will stand!! :o ;D But most folks stay in trapdoor to mid levergun loads with their H&R 45-70s, it's just a lot more fun to shoot!  ;D

Guess Tim would know.  The Talo's must all be modern.  ;)

Excellent, thanks.  Are the 19 inch barrels just too short really for the 45-70?

Large caliber, moderate velocities = only modest velocity decreases per inch of barrel - Chuck Hawks has a good summary arcticle about this.
