I trapped two mice in my , house /patio since I got home from Texas .

We've mostly decided that dogs are ... over .

But we could use a catish thing .... We've had several and most ...... All , now that I think of it just chose us one way or the other .......

One's close but it will just sort of happen ....... if I know a cat .....

Anybody remember "Top Cat" cartoon ? "Only his best freinds got to call him TC !"

I hope my cat will like cannons .

Get a Rat terrier or even horrors a Jack Russel if you need vermin taken care of, cats are over rated arnd lousy mousers.    Rat Terrors will even chase golf balls shot out of your golf ball mortar.  Dogs have personality and only live to please you...cats well they are cats.

Cats are cool  8) and they NEVER say a mumblling word .   8)

I have 3 dogs now , William 'The Old' (16) , Jasmine 'The ...... well almost as old' minpin  and the baby is Lacy our mini Dauchsand ,Dappeled grey . she's only 13 .

Me too. Have had several, and when it was their time to go I felt nearly like I'd lost a family member.

I can understand why some don't like cats. Others I think are just jealous of their lifestyle.  ;)

Cat,
I wonder if it's possible to cultivate an appreciation of an unpleasant scent? After all, most people would probably turn and run from the glorious scent of burnt BP hanging in the morning air. :D

It might be.  But I don't see quite where the adrenalyn rush would come from

Tim, you must be one cool Cat :D, because if I ever found myself in an up close and personal situation with a wild skunk I think my adrenal glands would be pumping double-time. ;)

Now I can only speak of personal expierence here, but I work in the deep south.  I also usually get to work around 4:30 AM (yeah I know, I'm sick) and trust me I have had more than one encounter with one of these critters since I have been down here.  The first time, it might have been a real contest as to which one of us let off the foulest smell. And for those that have no idea what I am saying, let us just say that I had to go back to my apartment and change.

Whoa Brokenpole, that sounds like a bad day at black rock, buddy; very rough! :o

Ya see, the reason CW is probably so cucumber cool when he runs up against these little stinkers on his property, is because the furry fellows mistake him for their forrest pal BIG FOOT (on account of his facial hair, and ahh, you know, BIG FEET), and give him a pass. :) ;D :D

Didn't catch anything this morning.  BUT my wife called me at work saying she SAW a skunk in close this morning after I'd left for work.   I guess I'm still in the trapping business.

We DID get to the range in Wytheville, VA yesterday.  Pix in another thread with more to come.

Not being sprayed by a skunk, great time at the range with mortars, good friends helping with building projects -- it doesn't get any better!

Skunks actually make excellent pets.

Ya know, this experience has taught me that the next pair of cats we get will be black and white striped.  At least one anyway.  We have 4 cats.  If I were to have 5, I would, by definition of the local zoning ordinance have a "kennel", which is NOT allowed where I live.  Since I'm the chairman of the town Board of Zoning Appeals I'm deeply involved in the results of enforcement of such rules.  So, not at THIS time.

My sister's skunk, Chanel (which I loved), was not black and white. She was a 'cinnamon' skunk. Cinnamon skunks have a medium to dark brown coat (sometimes with reddish highlights) and a white or beige stripe.

Chanel was medium brown with a beige stripe. Absolutely beautiful. Sweet and even tempered. And she loved me.

Sadly, Chanel died suddenly without warning. Still not sure exactly what was wrong.

Another  'possum.  That's 6 small and 2 large ones.  Still some skunks in the 'hood.

My step-dad told of going to the one-room school house in upstate VT.

A couple of the kids intentionally caught a skunk so they would get out of attending.  Didn't work.  The school master (later town clerk, fire warden, post master and general store owner) was hard as nails.  EVERYONE suffered.    :o ;D

Geez if that happened today Fire and EMT's would be called to the school.  8 of the kids would be hospitalized with breathing trauma, the rest would cared for by a team of counselors for PTSD and would have screaming nightmares the rest of there life  any time they saw black and white stripes because the counselors told them it was alright to be afraid.  The two kids who brought the skunk would be charged with cruelty to animals and the teacher would get 5 years for child endangerment.

To kill the smell when one of their dogs gets 'skunked', my cousin uses Fabreze. Actually works pretty good, but I'd still leave 'em outside for a few days (the dog- not my cousin-HA)

Zulu,
That reminds me of that ne'er-do-well Jimmy Carter always telling the story of how as a poor Southern boy he had to eat so much 'possum', that it got to the point where just the smell of it cooking made him sick. I wonder if people that didn't have daddies that left them peanut farms had to eat more possum than he did, because they were (after all) "poorer" than he ever was. :D

Nothing recently.  Two large 'possum, 4 or 6 little ones, one little skunk (released) and two stray cats (also released, exiting at high speed).  Neighbor has seen a family of 4 skunks recently.  My nose tells me they're still in the neighborhood.

Hey Cat, just think of what an indelible impression you'd leave on folks minds, if they caught sight of you checking your traps in the morning wearing one of these stylish chapeaus.  :D

Aaaaaaaaaaaa     hmmmmmmmmm

We are on the start of a rabies epidemic here.  Already going wild one county next to us.

Saw a cat this morning (two blocks from home) walking hunched up in the middle of the street and not paying attention to passing cars.

I think we've got a skunk family under our back poarch.   :-[

Time for the .22 rifle and the hollowpoints.

Not a legal option, as I live in a residential area in town.

(Although it would be definitive.)

I will dig out the low-resolution CCTV that I picked up at a yard sale two years ago.

I did chatch a big black one this morning!   :o    But it had a white collar - so I let my neighbor's cat loose.  ;D

Some times when the law is not supporting the facts, one needs to take exception.

I passed on the issues I've encountered tonight (at the Pulaski Mariners ball game) to the Mayor, the town lawer and the assistant town manager - who passed it on to the Chief of Police.  At least they recognize that allowance needs to be made and they commented on the historical non-support of the (county) animal control office.

Trap is again set, 55 gallon drum filled and bayonet fixed on the trench gun.   All is quiet on the Eastern Front.    ::)

Maybe tomorrow night I'll get back to modifying my .50 cal cannon for the postal shoot.   ;D

they make some very stout .177 cal air rifles now a days.  Not the best choice but maybe something that is legal

AND there's a fellow, almost retired now, that makes them in up to .45 cal.  Maybe bigger.  Check out his website -  Quackenbush is his name - a search will get it.

BUT, air guns are just as illegal for me to shoot in town.   >:(
