45 colt barrels
« on: August 06, 2010, 06:32:52 PM »
I went to the barrel accessory program web site the other day, 45 colt barrels no longer available.   I was thinking about a big bore, but am turned off by the slow twist in the 44 mag, 45 colt would be good but 'no longer available.'    444 would work but I wanted something i could load with carbide pistol dies.    Also muzzleloader barrels discontinued.    Makes me sometimes regret buying my .223 handi.   Will these barrels ever be available again, or not?  thanks.

According to CS, they will not be making any more.  Some still available through CDNN for $225 I believe. ;)  Once they are gone, they are gone.  Davidson's has some for $307 also, at the Gallery of Guns, and you get a lifetime warranty included.

They are definitely more at local shops from what I have seen.  I actually got my .45-70 the last day of a sale at a local place here, "Jay's Sporting Goods", and paid $375 for it.  I got my BC .45 LC through Davidson's for $265 when it was on sale.  Check the Gallery of Guns occasionally.  Most areas have a dealer available and you don't have to pay an FFL, or since CDNN has it for $225, here anyway, I can get an FFL transfer done for $25 bringing the total cost to $250.  At that price it's much more reasonable.  8)

CDNN still has the CR-45 BC Carbine for $229.99, they had 300 of them 2 weeks ago, I called day before yesterday, they still have lots left, you won't find them for less unless they have them on sale again for $199.99 and $9.99 shipping like they did 2 weeks ago!

I used to have a .444.....got a sizing die only and used my .44Spl. dies for the rest. I only had to resize when the cases wouldnt chamber up cleanly any more. I think I even used the carbide .44Spl on the .444 brass on occasion. I have messed about with a bunch of calibers, and often kept my die sets, so I mix & match to do up 'oddballs' that come my way. I have thought it better to find if a gun would shoot before putting a lot of money into tooling. FWIW, the Lee die sets are so reasonably priced that, if a gun is working out, you should just buy the right set. (and no, I dont work for Lee)
