I'm a bit conflicted on this one. I disagree with TM7 - I certainly DON'T think he's being setup. He released the documents. That said, I am very, VERY pro-open government. There's a reason why we have the Freedom of Information Act. There's a reason fascist governments like China seek to conceal all government actions from their citizens, and our own government has been going further and further down that road. Virtually every investigation into government misconduct these days is being met merely with the response that "This is a matter of national security and cannot be investigated.". TEMPORARY secrecy for the sheer sake of troop locations and such, then sure. ANYTHING beyond a few months old though there should be no such thing as "classified". The government is supposed to be by, for, and of WE THE PEOPLE. Secrets should not be kept from the public.
So from that perspective, I can respect what Wikileaks does. They drag out the ugly truth that governments (not just ours - they've published damning documents on German, Austrailian and other actions as well) don't want citizens to hear. I support his actions, but at the same time, your actions lose all nobility if you're not truly facing consequences for them. He released them, let him stand trial and be punished accordingly.
BTW, the reason why Wikileaks has delayed releasing the extra documents is that they are processing them to expunge any information that they believe would endanger the lives of any informants. They even asked the Whitehouse for help identifying this information and were shrugged off. They're left best guessing it to clean it up themselves.
That said, the documents have already been published in an encrypted volume called "Insurance". If anything happens to Julian Assange (essentially the head figure of Wikileaks) the key will be distributed to decrypt the documents in their full unedited form. He's also been working to shift parts of Wikileaks to Iceland, which recently passed legislation to protect such whistleblower sites.
