I have two boys. First was raised from the age of 3 to 16 by his mothers family. Then he came to live with me. I turned him around on a lot of issues, but I could not get it through his head that he had to start at the bottom. He also felt that an education was of no big importance. Also no matter what he thought about the Boss, that person was still the Boss. Did not take, kid was changing jobs every six to eight weeks, because the Boss was stupid he claimed. He would get mad because he wanted to be the Boss, he did not want to work for someone else. He could not understand everyone has a Boss, even the Boss has someone they work for. He kept thinking he should be starting at the top. He either got fired or quite, so many times he could not get a job anywhere. When he dropped out of school I said either get a job and help pay half the rent or hit the road. He laughed saying I could not throw him out, wrong. I moved to DC to be with the wife. I had stayed in Anchorage so he could graduate from High School there. It took him hitting rock bottom before it finally sunk in. Today he is an E-6 in the Navy, and they sure started him at the bottom.
My second son is still living at home, going to College. He has worked at some easy low paying jobs, and some pretty rough good paying construction jobs. Everywhere he has worked I have recieved compliments on his work, especially the construction jobs. But you can say the kid is hungry, so to speak. He has grown up going to a private school. Many of the kids there were from wealthy homes, and he went to those homes and saw how the rich folks live. Sky quite that private school on his own, saying he could not stand those rich spoiled brats anymore. He had enough credits to graduate a year early, but chose not to so he could play high school hockey. Now he has signed up with the Marines. Upon graduation he starts flight school.
So I have to say, the kids of today are not all a bunch of freeloaders. Yet there sure is many of them out there freeloading off the government dole. I blame some of the parents, but not all. And our public education system for telling them about so many programs that they can get for free, and how they have rights that the parents can not take away from them or stop them from enjoying. Sky came home after the first week of going to the public school system, and told me the things the teachers had told him, knowing he did not get this information at the private school. The whole time he was thinking RIGHT, my Dad would knock my head off if I stood up and told him that he could not stop me from doing that, or acting that way. Sky and I had a great understanding. Sky got his last spanking when he was six, after that we sat down and discussed our differances like adults. We treated him as an adult and he acted like an adult. I have to say, some of the sleeze balls that graduated from North Pole high, I would not hire to clean stalls. I would not want to subject my horses to that kind of scum.
