MAN it is hot, but not to hot to scout.
« on: August 10, 2010, 11:56:58 AM »
Hey guys,

I've been away a while but am now back and ready for bow season next month. We have found some pretty good sign on a few WMA's along the Savannah River and a few excellent trails that are almost roads. I am planning to climb my stand up a tree next to the water so I can throw out a live bream and set the rod in the holder while I try to get some blood on my crossbow. Hey Georgia Boy Surf And Turf is some of the best !!! Tell us about your scouting, and don't even try "it's to hot". Have a great day.

Ain't had the chance to do any real scouting yet. The only kind of scouting so far was riding on the four wheeler with my grand boys and one of them said 'LOOK"!!!! A Deer Track. :o Yup. And we kept riding ;D I want to walk back to a couple of stands behind the house and clear some brush this weekend or next. Might just have to put it off and go to the gun show in Savannah first.

I scouted a bit.  Drove down a logging road a few hundred yards, looking out the window.  Air conditioning on MAX.  Grandson said he saw a track, but it was on his side, so I didn't look.  I was afraid to stop as the catalyst on the truck might have started a fire in the crispy grass.  I wonder how hot it is in the Dakota's right now?

I was in Crawfordville Georgia once and went walking the trails in August. It was hot as can be for a northern boy but almost no misquitoes. I asked why and they said it's too hot for them. I don't know if they were messing with me or it was a very dry year.

I got out yesterday, and walked the entire circumference of my daughter's land.  Walked up a BIG buck.  Saw lots of sign.  Happened up on a BUNCH of turkeys, and got to spend the morning with the grandson.  He, by the way was extremely miffed that I did not take a shot at that deer with the 22.....he can't grasp the idea that game laws apply to private lands.....I told him it was to protect the game so that when he was bigger there would be some for him to hunt.

I also found an 8 year old is good for about 3/4 of a mile in the woods, then you got to carry them.  That boy went from 65 to 400# before I got him out of the jungle....

All in all a great morning.

Today I got up wrapped up in poison ivey.  My feet are solid in rash, and I'm pretty well covered up to my armpits.  It's gonna' be an aggravating few days until this clears up......
