I have to confess that since GB got me into TC handgun hunting with a 7-30 Waters that is all I have hunted with for 5 years until this year when I used a 30-06 rifle while in my climbing tree stand.  Forgive me GB for I have sinned!

During the hours in the stand, I longed for my Contender.  I felt that the rifle was more a hinderance in the tight space.  In addition, I'm right handed and making shots off to the right are so much easier with the Contender.  I came to feel that hunting with a rifle from climber was more difficult than with a handgun.  Does anyone else feel this way?

(BTW, I did get a nice deer but it ran farther that anything I've shot with the Contender.  Is someone trying to tell me something?)

I understand entirely. I've been hunting in an area that often requires long shots (I've taken deer from 200 to 325 yards), so I've been leaving my 7x30 at home and taking out my rifles. But I drew for and filled my buck tag last year, so this year I can get does only. So I'm using the 7x30 this year and bringing the 30-30 barrel in case I need to try to fill my other tag while I'm out there. I haven't shot a deer with the 30-30 yet, and I've missed hunting with the contender in general. You really can't go back can you?

I use to deer hunt with a H$R ultra 980 heavy barreled slug gun. then I got into hunting with a handgun. now I have a very nice 835. ( live in a shotgun only county) This afternoon I took out the 835 " for a walk" I too found it very award to get the shotgun up and in place for any shot.
I can shoot from ether hand so off to the right or left is no trouble.

With my heavy insulated coveralls on and the shotgun I found i had little room to move for a shot unless i was standing.

the only reason I took my out my 835 was because I missed so many deer this year with it. (5 in total) 4 where from 100 -150 yards. and the 5 th one this morning was  at 70 yards standing and off hand with no rest.

The last one was kind of funny the way  it happened. I was walking down the empty corn field she steeped out in front of at about 70 yards and turned to walk toward me. she saw me the same time i saw her. we both looked like "where did he come from?" she figured out it was not a good idea to stay around and started to walk off giving me a  side shot. the doe jumped and ran with a good lesson learned (  :-D I can't shoot worth a hoot)

i am hooked on handgun hunting. this is my first year doing it. i have a encore with 308 barrel and a 2-7 burris scope. the only problem i have is the pistol scope dosent gather light in the evening.
