O/U vs SxS vs Autoloader
« on: August 12, 2010, 03:44:07 AM »
I was wondering when do you use the O/U, SxS, or Autoloader?  Or do yoiu only use one?

I have both O/U and SxS and have been mainly using the SxS with double triggers but at this time I am mainly using it for hunting dove and to me the SxS swings better and the double triggers allow me to select the right barrel for the shot.

When I get back into sporting clays I will go with the O/U and single trigger.

For skeet O/U only. For sporting clays again an O/U is preferred. For trap a pump is my first choice.

For hunting I might use either of the three depending on what I'm hunting. If 12 gauge is needed then a semiauto is about all I'd want anymore because of my shoulder but I do have 12 gauge pumps for home defense use.

I have all three, and i find myself picking up a S&S 99.9% of the time....  Of course, i don't expend any energy (or $) shooting those little clay things that you can't eat, either.

MOE.
I look in the gun locker and start somewhere with EINI, Minnie, Minie, MOE.  And Moe gets to go to the range, or upland hunting.
I have only one  O/U, a Bakers Dozen SXS, five autos, and a number of trombone.  Oh and one Single shot.
Some of the hunting depends on what and where.  The hills of Bishop CA for quail and the 410 SXS gets the nod most of the time.
Dove at the salton sea, and any of them can go.  Pheasants or Huns in MT and the 20ga with 1oz of 7's gets the go ahead.  The Twin SXS also have gone on this trip.  I have two (2) Urgatheca M30 12ga, 70mm, 30" Modified and full, strait wrist, double trigger game guns that I call my pair. Serial numer are vastly different.  But they look the same.

I have hunted with about every type of shotgun but the over and under.I think that the one I enjoy using most is the side by side, but I have always been a point shooter.Probably the best one for the new shooter is the single sighting plane. Many people never own but one shotgun in their lifetime and usually are very good shots, but I always liked to try everything. The bottom line is its supposed to be fun, so make your own rules and enjoy.
