Hi,

You can send it to smith to take the barrel down a taper or two....I did this on a heavy barreled 300win and they reduced the taper to a #2 (weatherby taper). It looked fantastic!!!   BUT...there's a chance that the barrel will warp (it happened to this one and I had to rebarrel anyway) and you'll need a reblue and glass bed.  I suck it up or sell it and buy what you want!

I agree with Doug, sell the rifle and buy something that will tote easier, you will save yourself a lot of grief. ;)

I'd hang on to it and buy a 700 CDL.That good shooting Sendero should hold it's value and you will someday say"I should have kept that Sendero".The CDL is light, looks good, feels good, shoots good, great recoil pads and just a great rifle overall.

Hmmm, I have two of them, bought the first one in 1996 & the second one in 1999, I have hunted with them alot & some of the hunts were Western spot & stalk (all day affairs) & I havn't experienced any grief as yet.

I have a friend who actually, this is no joke, pulled a muscle in his neck from having his sendero slung over his shoulder after his arm got tired.  You should sell it to me really cheap and save yourself some doctor bills ;)

That's right Big Swede, or sell it to me, that's why I asked earlier what caliber it is!  ;D

Yep, I don't know about your friend so it may not apply, but many live very sedentary lives now & when hunting season comes around their bodies just don't adapt to rigorous activities. I wonder what foolks will do in another 10 years, I see people on this site sawing off barrels on their allready short "Handis" & trying to make guns lighter & lighter.

When you look at what our boys carry in the military all day it gets comical. One day my youngest son stopped by to visit, I showed him my my M700VS & he said, hmmm light!! ;D

I know of a sling that might help out. Safari Sling,  These slings allow you to carry your rifle in front of you ,hands off. And the rifle is ready to just pick up and shot. I have a custom that weighs 11 lbs and a buddy has a sedero in 7stw that use's one.

I too carried my sendero (300rum) on a spot and stalk elk hunt. Not too bad but was glad I had it when both shots at 425+ came up. A couple extra lbs with all that other crap I didn't need didn't make much differant.  I will slim down on the next trip ,but not the rifle.

Got my ol 7rum (sendero) out the other day. Got me pumped up to start workin up a 160 AB load for it. Had gotten a 6.5x20x50 Burris BP scope for it a while back and have plans to set up for a long range WT rig. Decided to go with the AB as the jury is still out for me on the Bergers, as a hunting round.
