Yep he did it . He said he was gonna and he did it!

If you are on SSI, SS, or food stamps you qualify for a free cell phone and 250 minutes of cell time. paid for by the government.

The adds are running on Television now, I saw one today!

The state of West Virginia has been providing it's welfare cases with cellphones for years. You know, so that they can get called back from all the job applications that they are filling out in an effort to get off of goverment support ::). I don't mind helping someone who is going through a rough spot, but most of our taxes in this state go to third generation welfare bums who are raising their kids to do the same thing.

Oldshooter....I saw this assurance phone advert on teevee as sponsored thru medicaid....I was amazed and said what the heck is this!  So I looked into it...the theory is there are few if any public phones available nowadays. Really cell phones are cheap. I gather the cell phone is to help people find employment....since the state owns the contract on these phones they can easily look into fraud and illegal activities...if you said you called on 20 jobs it better be on you assurance phone record...don't know for sure. What does bug me about this medicaid business is the immediate and total bypass of regulations if a] you are pregnant and b] an immigrant...i.e. you do not have to show personal resource information....go to the head of the line.
 
Medicaid has created a local industry that I call 'foreign birthing vacations'.  People fly into this country a week before birth, stay in a hotel, go to an emergency room, get admitted and have a baby...who is a citizen...all expenses paid except for airfare perhaps. Big industry for hotels and hospitals. I suspect some of these foreigners are wealthy and are medicaid savvy even before they land here. This indicates the 'true and real immigration policy' of the elite people running this country.  And you and I pay for it.

I wanted to know more about this phone thing. It seems it is only available in a few states. Maybe 9 or ten. If this is a government deal, why is it only in selected states?
  The phones are from Verizon. I am betting some Politian is making a ton off this scam.

In this part of the country there are extremely cheap or free phones available to those willing to pay by the minute.  As best I can tell they operate something like a debit card and when you've used up your minutes you have to go to the gas station or store to "put more minutes on it".  Generally if you see a number around here that starts with 999 as in, (XXX)-999-XXXX you're dealing with one of these.  The customers pay for the minutes though... perhaps they are partially subsidized?

I work for a phone company. You fill out a sheet to SELF qualify yourself, disability, school lunches, food stamps and several other ways to qualify. It is so that people will have a way to make emergency calls if needed but they can call wherever and whoever they want. The wonderful part is that if you pay for the service it is about $20 because you don't have long distance, since the taxpayers are paying the bill through the government WE pay right at $50 for it. Provide a $20 service and get $50 for it, can't beat that huh? The customer pays $1 + tax monthly. This is for a cell phone or landline.
